Can't access email with Outlook or wireless device.

Hi, I can get to my bellsouth.net email via mail.yahoo.com but both my outlook and email app on my phone quit working June 16, at the same time. I know the password is good because I get to my email via the web, but I need them on my phone. Something has changed out there. Can you help me?

Hey there @slaterda, we'd like to provide research on why you're unable to access your email account via Application and through Outlook.

Do you currently use Secure Mail Key?

AT&T is enhancing the security of AT&T Mail by advising customers to use either OAuth or a secure mail key to access their email through an app.

We recommend using an email app with email technology known as Open Authentication or Oath. Some email apps aren't compatible with OAuth security such as Outlook, so you'll need to create a secure mail key then you will continue to access your email account using your mobile app or desktop program.

Please let us know if this helps provide you access to your emails.

Thanks to user SBITS for the solution here on the forum.

Here is the starting point that worked...

I have been using Outlook 2016 to access my sbcglobal.net account. On 11/16 access to the att.net email servers stopped working while I was using Outlook. I can't find anything wrong on my end. Nothing has changed on my system and everything else is working OK. The web access is still working with the same password. I did the usual shutdown and restart and Outlook still has no access. Has something changed at ATT?

@Steven_Haug Are you using a secure mail key as your password with outlook? If not, that’s likely the reason.

I was logged in and outlook was working with no problems. Then the send receive errors started. I thought it may have been a server problem. I couldn't find anything wrong with the Outlook profile parameters. I decided to reenter all the information on the profile without changing anything this morning. That got things working again. I don't understand how this failure happened since the profile had been in use since June with no changes. It must have been some type of error on my system that caused the problem.

Thanks for the response.
