patunja1,

Since you are using a 3rd Party Email Client - this would be considered any other website or application outside of Currently - you may need to look into Open Authentication or Secure Mail Key to ensure your e-mail account stays synced properly and is able to be logged into.

Open Authentication is a security measure we put in place that encrypts your e-mail and password when using 3rd Party e-mail clients. We have an article regarding OAuth that states what applications work with this security system.

If the 3rd Party e-mail client you are using is not in that list, you will need to Create a Secure Mail Key. This is a security measure that encrypts your password, and you are able to create and manage it via myAT&T. You will then use your Secure Mail Key as your password when logging into any 3rd Party programs or applications, while your login to any AT&T sites will stay the same.

Please let us know if this helps. We hope to hear back from you!

We're here to help troubleshoot your e-mail settings, patunja1!

Are you using Currently to view your e-mails? We suggest doing so, as the website is supported by AT&T and we are able to determine if the issue is with your account, or with how it connects to outside servers.

Could you also let us know what specific settings you are trying to change or update?

We hope to hear back from you!

Thank you. I do not use Currently. I dont know how to do it. My problem is if I click on a e mail address I can not send my message because it says : "We can not access this account". More than that I receive all the time on my laptop this message: " the settings of Ameritech account are outdated"

Hey @patunja1.

We understand that you're having trouble with creating a secure mail key. Don't worry were here to help.

Please follow these steps provided below:

  1. Go to Profile and choose Sign-in info.
  2. Select the email account that needs a secure mail key. (You’ll find a menu at the top if you have multiple accounts.)
  3. Scroll to Secure mail key and select Manage secure mail key.
  4. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one.
  5. Select Add secure mail key and then enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easier to recognize.
  6. Choose Create secure mail key.
  7. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key, so you have it handy if you need to update an email app on several devices.
    • For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK
    • If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can create new secure mail keys.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Go to your preferred email app and replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers and replace them with your secure mail key.

Please let us know if that works for you.
