Why can't I get fiber on my street when it appears to be everywhere else in this area?

According to the FCC maps ATT fiber isn't available in a small section of my neighborhood.  Can anyone help me find out why we don't have access?  Or what we could do to change that?  It doesn't seem like it would be that hard to connect us to 500 ft away.

We are happy to see your interest in our Fiber Internet @ipacton336,

Here is a great resource that will assist with seeing What’s Going on with Fiber.

A couple key items to keep in mind:

  • Distance– AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service, but your home cannot.
  • Equipment is not available– To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. We do not have information if or when it will be.
  • The area is not built for U-verse– some areas are not U-verse ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be. Distance and equipment can play a key in instances like this.

Please let us know if this helps.

Thank you for your response.  I understand those general limitations, but not specifically why our street has been excluded from the fiber access that the rest of the community surrounding us has.

Who makes these decisions and how can I get in touch with them about my specific situation?

At&t fiber lines are in my ally behind me, but the website says at&t fiber is not available for my address. What's up with that?

We're here to help provide you information on when Fiber will be available, Kay1953!

There can be multiple reasons why Fiber isn't available yet, such as the following:

  1. Distance – AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service but your home cannot.

  2. Equipment is not available – To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. We do not have information if or when it will be.

  3. The area is not built for U-verse – some areas are not U-verse ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be. Distance and equipment can play a key in instances like this.

  4. Another competitor services there area - This happens from time to time but it does not mean all services are not available to you. Check out other internet options below!

We are still in the process of expanding the network to provide the most coverage to our customers. You can access our Coverage Map where you can check availability at your address. Otherwise, you can fill out an address research request form, and we will notify you when Fiber is available at your location.

If you have any further questions, please create a new thread so we can give you personalized assistance. This thread is two years old and subject to being closed at any time. Thank you for being a part of our AT&T Community!

I have an AT&T fiber pole at the end of my driveway. A fiber termination point across the street, but I am only offered 18 Meg bonded DSL.

I have Comcast, but they seem to think 900 down/25 up is a good plan. My cloud backups are so slow.

I'd take 300/300 in a heartbeat.

So distance is NOT my issue. Any thoughts?

I'm in the same situation. I'm a Uverse customer and fiber is available on both sides of my address on the same street and I cannot get it. Seems odd to me. But every time I try to contact ATT about it, I just get the same script.

They will never give you a straight answer as to why it isn’t available. I’ve heard so many excuses. Most recent blaming my city. Yet my city says it is not them. Notice all you’re getting is this stupid canned automated response. My suggestion is to file a complaint with the FCC. They only did half of my neighborhood, and it’s a very small neighborhood with only one way in and one way out and then never came back and finished. If enough of us file a complaint, they’ll have to stop doing this eventually.

Sorry, that’s not how it works.  Att or any ISP for that matter is not under any obligation I’m aware of, legally or otherwise, to give you a specific class of service other than what’s available to your address.  You can write to whoever you like, but it’s just tilting at windmills.

And while this will read as a negative response, which it is, I’m merely stating facts.  I too live in a development where Att fiber is present in an adjacent community, yet cannot get it here.  We’re starting to investigate what service provider is willing to step up to the plate and make a move.  This is one primary reason why competition is a good thing.

I ultimately did file a complaint and got a response within 24 hours from the presidents office. Within 2 weeks fiber was installed at my residence. So, kryssy who suggested filing a complaint, I appreciate it! I think sometimes in an organization as large as att is the left hand is unaware of the right hand. Every technician and every customer support rep I’ve talked to have been super informative and nice. My 1gig service is outstanding!

They laid fiber lines about 100 feet from my house over 10 years ago along train tracks and there are poles saying fiber lines below. Reps went door to door telling us about fiber coming soon. I've yet to see it and my only option is xfinity which has higher prices and slower speeds. Just a block away North and 3 south you can get it and 2 block to the east and west it's also available I don't understand why I can't get it. The lines are about 100' feet away.

You might have to take the extreme approach like I did. The workers at att are awesome. I think management is out of touch with consumers and their own employees is just my guess. Good luck!
