How to add multiple routers to DSL for better coverage . i.e. 2 story home, weak signal downstairs, gateway upstairs

i have a ADSL2+ router with basic DSL service. i bought a netgear n600 and netgear n300 router  at a flee market and want to add 1 or both to system ?  Is this possible, and if so can anyone help ? i have tried once and it took me about 6 hours just to get system back to where i started.

The model numbers of the 2 netgear routers are WNR 2000 v4 and WNDR3800 .

I appreciate any assistance at all thanks

You can really only have one router unless you're very good at network configurations. The main issue is what's called a double NAT. Two routers doing the same thing for one modem (very simplistic terms) causes issues.

You can try to add an extender to your existing system or replace the router altogether and use something like a mesh WiFi system. However, they aren't cheap.
