So should I have a broadband cord AND Ethernet cord for my gateway to work??? Or is one or the other suffice??

That depends on what medium you're connected to the Internet with.

If you are an ADSL2+/VDSL2 customer, then you will have something plugged in to the Green broadband port.

If you are an FttP (Fiber) customer, then you will either have an Ethernet cable in your Red ONT jack or you'll have a BGW320 with an SFP+ connector and a fiber cord going into that.

Those three ports are mutually exclusive, you would not need more than one connected.

You can connect up to 4 devices in the yellow or pale blue (BGW320) ports via an Ethernet cable.
