Can I install At&T equipment on my own
I would like to upgrade our Internet package. The upgrade would include a new gateway (modem/router). The system automatically sets up a technician to come and set up the equipment if I order online. Can I somehow bypass this and install the gateway myself? I have replaced our current gateway at least twice and AT&T just sends me the unit.

Upgrading your internet speed may require changes made at a crossbox and verification of service and wiring at your home. What speed are you now and what speed are you upgrading to? What gateway do you have? Are you switching from copper service to fiber service?

As @browndk26 mentions, the upgrade may involve outside work, not just swapping the gateway. If you're currently on a 50mb or less plan, you could be on a single pair connection. Going to a higher speed will likely require a bonded pair, or two pairs of copper wires. This will require additional connections at the VRAD / crossbox, your local serving terminal, the NID on the outside of your residence, possible new CAT5e homerun to your wall outlet and perhaps a new outlet plate or connections. Could be a 3 - 4 hour job for a tech, if no problems arise.
