About to upgrade from AT&T 18 -> AT&T 45 What does the Tech need to do?
Hello i am about to have a tech come and do the installation in a few days. Is it possible for the tech to do all the installations outside? If anything have it done in the garage which is basically almost the center of the house? Because my parents do not want anyone inside especially with the virus going around. What is required to have the router and everything done? Thank you

No, the tech will have work to do inside, and will also have to verify that service is working. You're likely going from a single pair to bonded pair install. This requires 2-3 hours of tech work for installing new jumper(s) at crossbox, making connection at terminal (aerial or ground level), updating NID for 2nd line, inspecting and possibly installing a new line from NID to the gateway. Also has to make connection at the gateway, which may include replacing the wall jack, or at least adding the 2nd line.
If your parents are really concerned, suggest you put off the upgrade until things calm down. Also, note that many installs are having to be rescheduled last minute, due to a shortage of techs in the field. Some areas are performing only service calls, due to the tech shortage.

I suppose that's possible, as long as the garage is weather tight. You intend to run the data cable from the jack in the garage to the gateway just inside the house? The tech would still need to test the gateway in the garage & make sure that you have connectivity. You might also need a longer data cable than the tech will be able to supply; longer cables can be found online. If you plan to keep the gateway in the garage, would have to be sure of no extreme temperatures. All of this would have to be discussed with the tech.
