Power Outage and Connection Gone
Hi,
We live in Oakley, CA, and on 4/27 we had a power outage at 9-10 PM. Although our router is on UPS and energy independent, the internet connection was gone. Actually, every time when we have a power outage, our internet connection is gone. Is that possible to have an internet connection regardless of the power outages?
We have AT&T Internet 1000 plan.

@Leah_Stan , your BGW210-700 Gateway is connected via an Ethernet to an ONT, which is a separate powered device connected to the fiber. If the ONT loses power, then you'll lose Internet. Some--older--ONTs were provided with a BBU, but that was many years ago; AT&T no longer supplies any battery backup at all. If you had such a BBU, you'd probably need to replace the batteries in it. If it didn't come with a BBU, then you can provide your own UPS to power the ONT.

In our case, the connection was gone immediately and wasn't available until the outage was fixed.

What ATT equipment do you have?
If losing internet connection on fiber at every power outage suggests you have additional equipment (ONT) that is not on your UPS.
If have a 210, 589, 599, or 5268 gateway… your UPS on the gateway provides power to the gateway, not to the separate ONT.
ONT models, there are two older models (210, 240) that use a white toaster size power supply, and two newer ONTs (010, white and 020 black) that use a small wall transformer. All would require being on a UPS to provide the fiber light to digital conversion the gateway would need to have service.

Hi @Constructive , when there is no power outage, everything is fine, otherwise connection disappears immediately for the whole duration of the outage. That time it was out for about 50 mins.

Hi @my thoughts , we use BGW210-700 router for the external connection. What would you suggest? Should we contact ISP (AT&T) locally?

If unsure where the ONT is located, follow the Ethernet cable plugged into the RED port of the gateway.
May be a few feet away or in an entirely different area including different floor such as basement has ONT with cat5e or cat6 running to the wall plate.
