How to connect Desktop using ethernet cable from ATT router instead of WiFi

Hello. I have the ATT BGW210-700 Gateway/router device and a newer PowerSource Win11 desktop with WiFi and bluetooth. I've noticed that the desktop only connects to the internet via WiFi from the router, even though I have an ethernet cable coming from the router plugged into the desktop. I want to be able to connect directly using the ethernet cable, not WiFi. This used to be a no-brainer - you plug in the Ethernet cable to the desktop and the internet comes up. Now, I have to go to Settings>Network and Internet>Dial-up>Set up a new connection...... it asks: "Do you want to use a connection that you already have" (and shows Broadband connection WAN Miniport (PPPOE)) I select that, then Next and then it wants a Username and Password. Where do I find this?? - thanks in advance

Hello @MikeBeeman,

We understand that you are unable to use Ethernet cable to connect internet on your desktop. We are here to shed some light on this situation.

This is a known issue with the Ethernet driver for Windows 11, we recommend that you contact Microsoft support as they will be able to assist you with the troubleshooting steps.

We see that you have a question about the username and password, you can try entering the username and password for your Wi-Fi and try to log in. If you don't remember the username and password please follow the below steps:

  1. Login to the myAT&T app.
  2. Scroll and select “Fix it now! Support tools”.
  3. Select “Manage my Wi-Fi” and view your information.

For more information please visit our website about How to Find your Wi-Fi Network Name and Password using the myAT&T app.

Download myAT&T app.

Don’t have the Smart Home Manager app? Download it from the Apple App store or Google Play store.

Let us know if this helps.

You’re right, it should just work.  Put the desktop into airplane mode and see if anything changes.

As for why you’re trying to use a dialup connection, I should point out it’s 2023 now.  😉

Well, you know it’s not a dial up – not sure why they’re calling it that. Using ethernet VS Wifi to connect the desktop leaves more WiFi bandwidth for other devices. I’ll try loading the ethernet driver suggested by Help. thanks

That help suggestion shouldn’t be necessary with Windows 11.
Good luck.
