Availability

I am a former AT&T DSL customer, I canceled in Feb. 2012 due to it degrading very quickley due to AT&T phasing out CO's.  I was informed verbally on the phone by AT&T and in the mail that U-verse was available, ok sweet!  So I cancelled my DSL, and then proceeded to order U-verse.  Turns out that it isn't available and that I had just screwed myself my cancelling DSL because AT&T wouldn't give it back to me because it was removed from my area, how nice!  I then ordered exede satellite internet where I get around 15mbps download and 4mbps upload, that's not bad to my 1.5mbps DSL.  But why do I want 1.5 or 3mbps U-verse?  It does not have a strict data cap like exede.  I hate the satellite internet I have right now, if DSL was shot out here I don't see why U-verse couldn't be, and the type of U-verse here is via copper wire instead of fiber so it is possible.  Not only would I take advantage of U-verse, but so would my neighbors that are either on satellite or an LTE (with a crappy low signal).  An AT&T technician, the one that installed my DSL 5 years ago said that U-verse would come out further than DSL, and did it..?  No.  Is it possible?  Yes.  I need U-verse very badly, it's pretty hard to do school work, VPN, videos, and other things with a data limit, and especially when you hit the data limit on satellite and are put under DAP which slows down everything besides emails and webpages.  Plus latency is an issue, ping is average arounf 700-900ms on satellite.  So if you have U-verse and are complaining that you can't get a faster speed, hush it cause there are people like me that can't even get it and live in broadband heck!  But anyway, my main question is how can I get AT&T to extend it?  Petition?  Call the technician I know?  Email CEO?  I do not live that far out of town at all, it IS possible.

@austin_spiller1998 ATT has provided only 40-45% of ATT users w/UverseTV and internet (45-3M) on VDSL2, 30-35% users w/ ADSL2+ internet (18M-768K) for those beyond VDSL2 range and 20-25% of users will get no DSL of any kind.

ATT is using ATT wireless 4G LTE to provide internet services for those w/no wireline service available.

@mibrnsurg why can't the just send it out here? I forgot to mention u verse was available out here for a week. A couple weeks later I go to order and it's unavailable again. And LTE won't work for me, one because of data limits, two because it's expensive, and three because I don't get an LTE signal at my house.

They have shorter distance limits for Uverse Internet than they did for ATT DSL, that could use Remote Terminals to make you seem closer than you were to get higher speeds.

So, the tech was wrong about Uverse Internet going farther than ATT DSL.  Think what he was referring to is the ADSL 2+ signal goes farther and stays stronger than the ADSL signal.  But in reality, the user that had 3M Internet on DSL switched to Uverse Internet and got 3M Internet.

Would suggest you look at cable for your needs, at least latency woiuld be much lower. 😉

@mibrnsurg, I believe it is in fact ADSL2+ U-verss that is in town and on part of my road. I'd gladly chose cable but it also is not available. That's why I'm stuck with satellite.

Then I'd contact ATT Uverse Care about an address validation case to see if you can get Uverse Internet.  Click the ATT Uverse Care link in my signature, send the PM, explain your address validation situation.

Include your name, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply.

It'll take about 2 weeks for the case to be investigated.  Good luck 😉

@mibrnsurg, I actually did that last week on Monday I believe, I Pm'd att uverse care.  They say they're doing all they can do make it available... Do I believe that?  No not at all...  I could probably bet you $500 that U-verse will still be unavailable when I get the next PM (hopefully tomorrow) telling me that I can't get it.  I did an address research request via att.com and it said that it would take two to 3 weeks for me to get an email saying if I could get it.  About 30 seconds after submitting the reqest I got an email saying I couldn't get it, doesn't sound like the system even works.
