AT&T Universe 300/20 internet upload speed terrible
I have had AT&T for over 18 years but just in the last 4 months, I have been having slow or drop-off in my connection. I have had multiple techs come out to try and fix it. Each one does something and then they call out the bucket truck techs. Nothing they have done helps and they say there are no open ports for them to swap me with. I have no option to upgrade my service with AT&T. Does this sound like the system is overloaded and not capable of handling the bandwidth requirements? I am about ready to switch to Medicom if AT&T cannot get this fixed. I have found out I am not the only one on this hub that is having network connection issues. Also, my wire run is very short, the AT&T hub is located at the corner of my property. Should they run a new line?

Hi there, mcgyverjr. We understand that your upload speed is slow. We can help speed that up.
The first thing that we need to look at is your type of service. Are you AT&T Fiber? The reason why we ask this upload speed is based on two things:
As you have stated, your speed is 300/20. 20 being your upload speed. That is 20 megabytes of speed. That is your upload bandwidth. Uploading also is based on how you are uploading. Are you uploading via Ethernet, which is a direct connection to the AT&T router or Wi-Fi, which is an indirect connection, but over the air (radio signal)? The reason why we ask this is, so we can troubleshoot you properly.
Let's so some speed testing. We are going to have you run two tests, and post the screenshots of both.
Go to AT&T Speedtest. You are going to run this test via Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Run the test via Ethernet first. Running the test via Ethernet, will show you what your actually speed is directly connected from the AT&T router to the AT&T servers.
Then run the same test via Wi-Fi. This will show you what speeds you are getting over the air via Wi-Fi.
There can be a 20 to 25% difference in speeds, depending on the connection type.
So if you could please post your results of the speedtests? This will give us a clearer understanding of where the root cause of the concern is and how we can make a plan of action to getting this fixed.
Looking forward to working with you soon.

Umm... it just dawned on me that 300/20 service isn't something AT&T has ever offered. Would you like to try again, Mr. OP, and this time correct any inaccuracies or exaggerations in the story? Maybe we can help, if we know what's going on.

Correct, AT&T doesn't offer my plan anymore but they also don't offer any upgraded plans for me to move to. When I run speed tests, tge upload will work 50% of the time but then the speed slowly drops down or slowly goes up. Techs have replaced filters, resliced my connection but the lag still happens. I have another tech scheduled to cone out tomorrow. He will show up and have to put in a ticket for the bucket truck tech to come. Another thing I noticed is my details data on my modem show alot of errors.
My service is twisted wire, there is fiber just down tge road from me but AT&T says it is not available for my location yet.

Hi, @mcgyverjr67, we would be happy to follow up with you to make sure your technician appointment goes well.
To do this, we will need to discuss account details in private. We'll be sending a Direct Message shortly. Please look for a notification in the upper right corner of the page, which will alert you of incoming messages.

I suspect your heading (title) is wrong…
You likely have ATT Uverse Internet 100/20.
This requires a BONDED PAIR on a K or N card with total loop length under 1000 ft…
my wire run is very short, the AT&T hub is located at the corner of my property
I do not remember when, but a software update to the gateways in the last few months is causing any uploading to saturation leading to downloading slowing or stopping until the upload is completed.
It is not an outside line issue, rather a software issue…. Recommend not performing any large upload during usage time and run uploads at like 3am when hopefully none is using the internet.
Software updates are generally pushed once per quarter in my experience…
Just my thoughts…
I do not believe you have fiber 300/300 as state /20… many years with company with mentioning UVERSE not ATT FIBER with box on edge of property and short run.
If want access the gateway using 192.168.1.254 and post screen (Edited per community guidelines) of stats page which would include max sync, user rate, Noise Margin, etc…

Yes, my heading is incorrect, the service is 100/20 not 300.
As an update, I had another service call take place over the weekend and I was told more about the problem on the whole line. The upload line has excessive noise on it. No one has been able to find where this noise is coming from. It is affecting 9-10 customers who are all on the same run. The main box, as I noted is in my yard, the lines going North from the box are good, but the Southern run has the issue. I was told they have had the power company out to look at insulators. The problem started back in Oct 2022. Since not everyone keeps calling in tickets, the problem is not a high priority and only gets looked at if the techs have time or have a ticket. My ticket for Sunday has been closed but I am stilling having dropouts.

I was called by the main AT&T office in Texas. They are opening up an Engineering trouble ticket.
