Xbox/device network issue (Additional authentication needed)

It started about a week ago, when my xbox wouldnt connect to the internet. It would say my xbox "Is connected to the internet" and then the Additional authentication needed screen with the alternate mac address thing came up when I tested my network connection. I did every troubleshooting method in the book. I even factory reset the thing hoping it would work, but it wouldnt budge. On my computer when i connected to the internet, I got the screen that comes up when you havent paid the internet and it got cut, but when i closed it my internet works. The internet also works on my phone, but i got the same thing as on my computer. Now, today, I tried to get on my switch and the same issue. It wouldnt connect to the internet.  I called up AT&T support and they said everything was alright with my internet and gateway (BGW210). I dont know what to do next.

What is the "screen that comes up when you haven't paid the internet"? Sound l ike it is intercepting the network messages - the Xbox and switch can't get past that, but a PC can (they have no way to click a box to close that).

This is called an "intercept proxy" which is a good way to show an error to a PC user, but breaks everything like Xbox, Roku, or Switch.

This is a problem in the AT&T network, likely their "DNS error assist."

Call them again and opt out of DNS error assist. or do it yourself: https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-internet-features/dns-error-assist-optout-not-working/5eec2070483393625195a09b

If you can manually change the DNS to 1.1.1.1 on the Xbox or Switch, that may fix it.

Changing the dns settings didnt work for neither of the devices. Is there anything else i can do?

Try to get the DNS error assist disabled.

If not, you need to get the intercept proxy to recognize the MAC address.

Can you connect the Xbox wired? Is it the same problem wired or wireless?

Write down the MAC address of the Xbox or switch. Power it off. Set the PC MAC address to match the MAC address of the Xbox ot switch. Do the login, get past the intercept page. Then, reset the MAC address back to default. Then, plug in the device and see if it works.

There should be no intercept proxy in place, but if there is, this is a way to trick it into bypassing.

If you change the MAC address at all, do you get " the screen that comes up when you havent paid the internet?" That's the problem. You need to clear that out.

The way you do that is turning off DNS assist on your profile, and then the profile reprograms the home gateway.

Call support and get them to do that or help with that....

That is the problem. AT&T needs to fix that for you. You need to open a case with them. How do you bypass it with you PC?

Call again, tell them you have a "DNS intercept page" being inserted by the gateway. This is absolutely an AT&T issue, the screenshot is the key.

There seems to be an account problem, like a payment issue? Maybe stat by calling billing, explain the page to them, and ask why you keep seeing that page. See if the account is locked in some way, and why, and if they can clear the lock.

Do you see any messages when you log into your account? Can you reach any other sites from a regular PC?
