Will IFWA-40 Home Base work with 5G?
Like many others I've also had a torturous week of trying to get information from AT&T support with the sunsetting of 3G and the failure of certain devices as a result. AT&T online documentation is out of date and inaccurate. One document said my ZTE Z700A would still work but that turned out to be false. One AT&T support person said the IFWA-40 will work with 5G and gave me the phone number to a local store saying they had one in stock. I called the store and they didn't and had little familiarity with the issue.
I would like to know if this device will work with 5G. Has anyone out there used this successfully? Or is there anyone at AT&T that has knowledge about this issue? I'm hoping we have not been totally hung out to dry. Here is a list of devices that according to online documents may still work for us our-of-the-way users. If anyone has any knowledge about these please, please let me know.
IFWA-40
WF723CC
MF729
Velocity MF923
Velocity 2 MF985
SPO2 MF978
I believe they're all ZTE devices.
Thank you,
George

Are you saying this list is wrong? Updated March 9, 2022. The only way previous posters have been able to get an IFWA-40 is by escalating to a customer care executive which you can do by filling out the form. If the list is correct your Z700A is suppose to work. I don't know if it would require a new SIM or not. Have you taken the unit to an AT&T corporate store? (not an authorized dealer) Might give that a try if ones handy.

I followed the links on your list but I don’t see my Z700A on it. Besides I’ve tried 5 different SIMM cards, called corporate stores, physically gone to stores as well; nothing worked. Each time I call support I get sent down another rabbit hole. For example, at the end of my last support call the agent looked up a store she said had an IFWA-40. I called the store and they did not. I agree that good customer service would have AT&T sending me one but one support agent supervisor told me they had no such option available. Nor does AT&T have a plan to offer a 5G device per a conversation I had with ZTE. Their opinion, contrary to AT&T is that none of these devices will work with 5G. I’m resigned to the fact that AT&T is not backing its customers on this issue so I’m willing to buy a compatible device myself if I can just get confirmation on which ones will work with 5G. The list attached to your link indicates 3 devices; MF923, MF985, and MF978. Are you saying these will work????

I don't know what list you're looking at, but the link posted shows these WHP or AWI units still working:
• AT&T Wireless Internet (IFWA-40)
• AT&T Home Base (Z700A)
• ZTE Wireless Home Phone Base (WF723CC)
• AT&T Wireless Internet (MF279)

Thanks for your assistance. I guess I'm going to have to take the dive and buy on. I’ll let you know how it goes.
