Ever since I got an upgrade on Internet service and uverse..they changed my gateway..now my tv constantly and progressively worse, has pop ups of the set up modes be it video or whatever random area of my tv's setup..they stay on for a minute than exit themselves out...or if we hit our tv remote on exit it goes away..is this caused by signals from uverse or internet?never done this before upgrade....husband is about to throw remote through tv or tv out window. .my upgrafe isnt worth this...

Here's the manual:
http://support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDetail?contentId=2816400&isFromTOCLink=false
See page 36 to stop the input selection mode pop-ups.
Page 32/33 talks about channel labels that can be pop-ups too.
Good luck 😉

Are you saying that the TV reacts badly when you press the u-verse remote buttons to change channel or can you be specific what buttons you are pressing?
It is possible that the TV is reacting to pressing the TV/video button when in the TV mode - Meaning you press the TV button first.
You should have no need to be in TV mode. You should watch in att mode.
Yes, it sounds like you are getting into TV mode & activting the normal TV operation that you do not need at that time.

OK - cover the IR sensor on the TV with a thin piece of cardboard (like from a cereal box) to see if it stops. This is only for a test because you will not be abkle to change the volume (or turn it off) on the TV while it is covered.

Is your tv a smart tv. It sounds like it is doing what my Samsung does at times. Samsung pushes notifacations. Toshiba may be doing the same thing. In set up you should have an option to turn off notifications. Samsung notifications only appear at the top of the screen for 10 seconds after the tv is turned on.

If the TV is not connected to the internet via wi-fi or cat8 cable it is not capable of automatically receiving updates. But, it could go into update mode - looking for the internet connection or a USB stick drive. See if you have a stick drive connected to the USB.
The blocking of the IR sensor will eliminate some kind of IR causing the problem. There is no way for the normal TV viewing connnection to u-verse causing the problem.
After you can eliminate IR as a possiblity you can contact Toshiba because it must be the TV.
