You cannout purchase to own a gateway. No matter where you get it, that equipment remains AT&T's property. Plus they charge you the monthly rental for it. Naturally because of this, there are no 3rd party gateways allowed. It must be AT&T's to begin with.

AT&T internet service requires the use of AT&T leased equipment.
