Enter the gateway settings by pointing your web browser to 192.168.1.254; the device access code needed is on the label on the side of the modem. Go to the WiFi settings and disable the wifi radios. The connect an ethernet cable to any yellow port on the back of the gateway and then to your device.

Sure, you can turn it back on the same way you turned it off. Tech support can not do this for you.
Not at all.
The errors you're seeing are all Ethernet (hard wire) errors. Make sure that your laptop's wireless networking is not disabled. Some models have a button to enable / disable wifi; check your documentation. Has your computer been able to connect to any wifi recently?
