Arris NVG599 5Ghz band remains disabled

I just received another modem from AT&T - the ARRIS NVG599. Apparently there are a lot of folks that hate this router/gateway. After installing, I assumed both bands would work on my Uverse service. the 2.4 is "enabled" but the 5 is "disabled" and no amount of toggling will get it to restart, or become active. Is there something I'm missing in the set up? I'd like to have the dual band working...

I have the same problem.  Each time I try to make changes to the 5 GHZ Radio settings I get a message, "The 5 GHz radio is not operational. Check the status".  I  read on a post a while back that the 5 GHz radio is reserver for AT&T's Direct TV streaming service.  Some users claim they can get the 5 GHz radio working on their AT&T NVG599.  Maybe they also have Direct TV service.  If anyone can let us know how to activate the 5 GHz radio work without having to subscribe to Direct TV I, and many others, would appreciate it.  Thanks.

I have the same problem.  Has AT&T ever provided a valid respone to this problem?  Reset does NOT work!

I returned the NVG599 and asked for a 5268AC instead. ATT sent it and it worked perfectly out of the box. Much better to have the 5g band - as we we use our smartphones to watch video and sports. the 2.4g band is useless for that. Best of luck

I have a 599 and can toggle the 5G radio on or off with no problems.  FWIW I had also changed the passwords for both the 2.4 and 5 to something other than the default, changed the security to WPA-PSK, and 2.4 WPA version to WPA-2.
