AirTies 4971 identifies as wireless when connected gateway via ethernet

I have just added a second airties 4971. My home is wired for ethernet to most rooms. both are connected via ethernet to the gateway and only one identifies as wired. After resets, the new one does say wired however it reverts back after some time. Any thoughts on why or what the issue is and how to resolve?

We'd be happy to help you figure out what's going on with your AirTies, @kshack.

Let's begin by finding out if your AirTies were set up properly. You can follow these steps to make sure your AirTies 4971 is set up correctly:

  • AT&T AirTies 4971 Wi-Fi extender
  • An AT&T internet service (home or business)
  • Pace 5268AC, BGW210, or BGW320 Wi-Fi gateway (NVG589 and NVG599 don't support AirTies 4971)
  • A single Wi-Fi name and password for both radio bands on your gateway. Learn more about band steering
  • AT&T Smart Home Manager app (suggested for easy Wi-Fi management). Don’t have the app? Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.

Please reach back out, and let us know if these steps were completed properly.

Hi Latoya,

Everything was setup correctly and the above requirements are all in place. Thanks.

Thanks for that information, @kshack!

Have you tried using a different Ethernet cable for the second AirTie? It's possible this could be the cause as the connection isn't stable. We also recommend trying different Ethernet ports on the back of the gateway. Along with that, a simple reboot of your gateway could also resolve this for you.

Let us know if this helps!
