Uverse router to Linksys wrt G router. HELP

Can anyone please give me a link or give me recent up to date instructions on how this is done. The Google machine brings Att forums that are out dated and do not work.

I would much appreciate.

As far as I know, if you follow the instructions on the post, along with pretty much turning the WRT54G into a wireless access point, it pratically turns it into a switch for wired devices.

Is there a reason you want to use the WRT54G for wired devices other than your current wireless gateway? For some U-verse plans, the WRT54G might not be able to handle the traffic load.

Did you want to use it so you would have more Ethernet ports? If so, I would just suggest ordering a cheap Ethernet switch that can properly handle higher speeds. Here are some switches below:

Basic -

Gigabit(if you have have Gigapower or want faster LAN to LAN downloads) -

U-verse TV Compatible(if you have this service and want to put TV receivers on the switch) -

Is your model the WRT54G?

If so, follow these instructions:

https://forums.att.com/t5/Third-Party-Devices/U-verse-for-BUSINESS-2Wire-3600HGV-bridge-mode-or-another-AT-amp/m-p/2723261#M3642

This will turn your device into a wireless access point.

I would suggest you purchase a newer router when you get the chance. The WRT54G was a great router, but it surely is getting surpassed.

Yes, the router is getting surpassed.  it was the standard forever though.

You are more or less correct that i am using the linksys as a glorified switch.  It is what i had laying around without going and buying a switch.  All in all i was tryiing to go att uverse to router to VPN to computer, however i ran into sooo many issues with that that i wanted to start basic.

I figure you are correct that i might as well get the switch and be done seeing as gigabit is coming to my area soon as it is..  🙂

Thank you for your advice.  you have sureley been helpful
