My service was cancelled six months ago, now they're sending bills and threatening a credit report.
I cancelled my Frontier DSL internet back in June which was apparently provided through AT&T. Got and paid a final bill... or so I thought. I had to go through literal (Edited per community guidelines) and back to get someone who didn't speak a word of English to cancel ANOTHER bill I was sent for August. Nothing until November when I get a bill for about $18, and no back charges for all the months since I cancelled. The charges were from October to November. I tried to contact the company, I couldn't get any response so I did the only thing I could, I tossed it in the trash because I'm not paying for service I don't have. This morning I get another bill wanting $36, again for service I thought had been shut off months ago. My landline doesn't even work, I had to look in my basement for an old phone. So basically you guys are trying to get me to continue paying for something that doesn't exist and now you're making threats on my credit and inevitably collections. I should not have to get a lawyer involved to get you to stop doing this. I shouldn't have even had to register an account here.

I am unclear what service you are talking about.
1) Are you located in Connecticut? If not, where are you?
2) What service(s) did you have that you think you shut off?
3) Could you have had other services that you did not shut off?

Is the bill from Frontier, your internet provider...or from ATT, possible Long Distance service?
What would be $18 a month?
Equipment charge with maybe late payment?
Details would be on the bill...
Again is the bill from Frontier or ATT?

I'm in Illinois.
All of the service. I had to force Frontier to shut off the internet, they really didn't want me upgrading to 400MB cable instead of 6MB DSL. Then I get a bill, from them, branded for AT&T but came in a Frontier bill. I paid it as I assumed it was the last bill. Next month I get another bill, I had to go through a nightmare of Frontier saying they had nothing to do with it, contact AT&T, then they said they had nothing to do with it, contact Frontier. They bounced me back to AT&T and finally I got someone who said they shut it all down and credited the bill and that was it, it was over and done with. Then nothing until months later in November when I get a bill for service from October to November. Which makes a lot of sense since they sent me nothing for the months before. I don't have it with me right now, I was so mad I tossed it somewhere. But it was some basic $9.99 thing inflated with charges up to about $18 for maintenance fees and things like that but now they want $36 because I didn't pay them anything last month. I'm not paying it before it's due on January 8th either, you know, spoiler alert. Last month when I got the bill I tried to contact someone and I never got anyone.
I had no equipment from them, just a phone number I hadn't used in 8 years since I switched to a smart phone and got rid of landline calls. But apparently the internet I had with Frontier was through AT&T. I don't know how any of that worked.
And the bill was full AT&T this time, not Frontier. I don't know what the deal is, but clearly I'm not paying it. And if my credit is damaged and I'm harassed by collectors for $36 I don't owe... I'll be understandably upset. I've never had this much trouble with a service I've had to cancel and now I'm being threatened and I can't get anyone from the company to do anything about it. I'm not calling numbers and waiting an hour to be told there's nothing they can do about it. I just want this to go away. Money is tight right now as it is and I can't afford a bill, like I said, I canceled a long time ago now.

We understand how frustrating this billing mix up is for you, Anarchist86ed.
We recommend calling our Collections team directly at 800-947-5096 to see what can be done about the charges. If you need help with anything else, let us know.

I'm still trying to figure out the Frontier/AT&T thing for DSL. If collections can't help, file a complaint with the FCC or the BBB.

Yeah, call someone. I already said I tried that and it didn't work I didn't get any response.

As expected, calling the number got me nowhere. Waste of time. I guess since no one is going to help me, I have no choice but to file some kind of complaint. I was hoping someone would be able to rectify the situation but I get nothing but the run around and half hour wait times for no one to talk to.
I mean, what am I supposed to do? They're threatening me with a credit strike, demanding money for a service I don't have, and will probably hand it off to a collection agency to try and get $36 out of me and evidently refuse to fix the situation without calling people who never answer.

Good lord you need to deal with frontier At&t isn’t your provider. Many companies use At&t lines but they are their own company.

If you have a bill from AT&T, open a complaint with the BBB for AT&T. If you have a bill from Frontier, open a complaint with the BBB for Frontier. Wringing your hands here isn't moving the ball forward.
