Massive Internet Usage for no good reason!

Hello,

I have seen other posts with not much info or help from AT&T, but maybe I missed something.  I have seen an incredible increase in my home internet usage with no real or apparent reason why?!  Maybe I have a tab or two open on my phone, but it is just me and my boy.  My boy is a dog, so unless Gary has learned to shop on Chewy I cannot explain why this has happened and caused my plan to exceed it's limit?!

Please help! THank you!

@dlcate08 so nothing to go on and now we have a growing community of users who are seemingly being blindsided by ATT with drastic upticks in usage where that wasn’t present prior to Nov-Oct of 2022.
I am not sure how to proceed if they won’t listen or do anything.  Anybody have ideas other than jumping ship to another carrier?

It's not nothing going on. I'm trying to gather more people from another online forum to check their usage.  For us to get any traction on this issue we need more than a handful of people seeing this.

Hey there 'ajliss10'...  I have had a similar issue for years and have tried and tried to get an answer from AT&T and all I get are "try this" or "go to this app" or something else that has no useful information and does not work...  I have an old DSL service that isn't going to be upgraded and live in the country where nothing else is available except satellite service...  My closest neighbor is 5 acres away...  I prefer to have a direct wired main line to the house because of hurricanes, power outages and such...  (If I loose power I can still pick up my home phone and call for help if needed.)  I continue to get penalized by AT&T for exceeding my plan usage...  I have tried multiple times to have a detailed, itemized bill sent to me so I can manage my usage and I continue to get the run-around...  I have communicated with the "Office of the President" and now they do not even answer my emails...  I provide them with detailed information concerning harassing telemarketing calls that are always listed on my Caller-Id as someone else (I track every phone call I receive) and I still have to pay for the Caller-Id service that gives me false information...  And on top of that I have filed two (2) FCC complaints and nothing, absolutely nothing has been done except my phone/internet bill keeps going up...  The icing on the cake is that I worked for AT&T before the big split up and continued to work for the phone industry for over 20 years as an engineer and the garbage they feed their customers does not really work on me...  With me it is simple, At&T bills me for usage and I want that bill to be detailed/itemized and show me what they are billing me for so I can manage my account...  They refuse to provide it...

@wilcoxdj   If you want to complain and vent, then start your own thread and have at it.  Please do not dump it in the middle of a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic.

@wilcoxdj I'm sorry to hear this has been going on for so long.  I'd be even more furious than I already am - especially with your background!

@tonydi thanks for trying to round up more customers.  Isn't it funny where "the customer is always right" is such a foreign concept to most companies these days.  Take it easy on others man --  wilcox was just venting after years of frustration I am sure.

Hi everybody. After reading this thread again and seeing how many others are having this problem, I had a thought.  What if back in October or earlier AT&T realized that they were under counting data usage for some reason?  And when they realized what would happen to our usage numbers when they fixed it, they were kind enough to increase our data limits like mine from 1TB to 1.5TB to try to mitigate the effect of fixing the under counting problem?  Only they didn't realize how much higher some people's usage was going to go.

Just a thought.

If that is the case, fine, but tell the consumer!

I came here for the same reason - my sudden increase started around November 20th. My average monthly usage for the last year plus has been 450 GB so I'm really not sure what's going on but the last month was over 1700 GBs. We haven't done anything differently this last month.

@rgkelson   Yeah, I guess that's certainly a possibility but this issue doesn't seem to affect everyone, quite the opposite based on what we know right now.  I think that sort of adjustment wouldn't just be rolled out to a small number of people.

@rgkelson your explanation might sound out there, but honestly I am not sure how else to explain it at this point!  And someone mention tell the consumer, but I don’t see ATT doing much in the way of great customer service practices! Lol
