Massive Internet Usage for no good reason!

Hello,

I have seen other posts with not much info or help from AT&T, but maybe I missed something.  I have seen an incredible increase in my home internet usage with no real or apparent reason why?!  Maybe I have a tab or two open on my phone, but it is just me and my boy.  My boy is a dog, so unless Gary has learned to shop on Chewy I cannot explain why this has happened and caused my plan to exceed it's limit?!

Please help! THank you!

Mine was 11/16, my beginning of the new billing period, as was at least one other person here.

For future reference, "expect a call" or any other offer to have someone call you back is AT&T "support" code for "you're killing my performance metrics which could get me fired so go away."  Hey, at least they only lied to you, they'll often just hang up.

@tonydi monthly average below 800. My bill date ends on the 10th.

Just checked my usage , I have 129 gb left of 1500 and 11 days to go!

Thought I would add my usage graph to the thread to add some more evidence to the problem. My daily usage jumped on 11/18/22.

Perhaps your daily usage actually did jump on 18 November.  Maybe that was the day you got malware.  Or your dog discovered a YouTube channel he likes.  The point is that we don't know, and you probably don't know your actual usage, unless you have your own router in front of the Gateway and are capturing your own metrics.

Currently, I'm capturing the metrics from the Gateway itself and the Gateway's metrics for the single port where all my Internet traffic originates (because it goes to my own router) line up with AT&T's daily reports pretty closely.  Other ports have AT&T IPTV traffic and that traffic is not showing up, which is correct; it's not Internet traffic.

Also note that a single speed test (15 seconds down, 15 seconds up) on a 1000 Mbps circuit could easily consume 3.8 GB of data.

Can I get some detail on how you are capturing the data from the gateway?  Is it the AT&T provided 5268AC modem?  If so, then what specific page and item are you monitoring?

Thanks

I have an BGW210 and I am using a PowerShell script to sc(Edited per community guidelines) the page and feed it to MRTG and Graphite.  I think the 5268AC uses the same pages as the NVG589, which I may still have a script for, if you know what to do with a PowerShell script.

I would like to see that script if possible.

We have the same issues.  We are on Internet 50.  Our data cap was 1024gb.   ATT increased our data cap on 10/16/2022 to 1.5T.   From the looks of our chart on Internet Use, we didn't think we needed it.  Then on 11/19/2022, our daily usage started to rise.  We receive the data overage emails and were charged $20 for the 84 GBs we went over on billing period ending 12/13/22.  We started doing the work to figure out why we were going over!

We do work from home.  A typical work day 11/2/22 used 9.13GB.  Yesterday, 1/3/23, a typical workday used 84.36GB.  No tv streaming, nothing changed with our work.  Something is wrong!

We didn't add any devices or streaming services.  We didn't change our behavior.  There are no unknown devices connected.  We looked for the long list of problems.  Turned off all automatic updates, etc.

We have spoken with customer service.  They believe we are using the data and will not help us figure out why the sudden and drastic increase.  We can't figure out why our ATT-reported-data-totals have soared since 11/19/22.

Anyone find solutions?  Any additional ideas?
