Massive Internet Usage for no good reason!
Hello,
I have seen other posts with not much info or help from AT&T, but maybe I missed something. I have seen an incredible increase in my home internet usage with no real or apparent reason why?! Maybe I have a tab or two open on my phone, but it is just me and my boy. My boy is a dog, so unless Gary has learned to shop on Chewy I cannot explain why this has happened and caused my plan to exceed it's limit?!
Please help! THank you!

@ajliss10 I have seen the exact same spikes you are seeing, started at the exact same time you stated, and in almost the exact same situation. Now I’m pulling double the data than I have in the past. Please post if you hear anything. I monitor my network very frequently and am also scratching my head.

Since I have unlimited data on my fiber I don't monitor the numbers all that closely. But because I'm a data addict I do download the usage numbers and dump them into a spreadsheet. So now that we have two people with the same situation, it made me curious. Looks like the last entry in my spreadsheet was Oct 15th. So I downloaded the other two months and looooookie here!!!! I'll see if I can gather more data from others.

I am also interested in this issue. My data usage also spiked in November. What I see is a correlation between when AT&T increased the data limit from 1TB to 1.5TB on the 50/10 plan. I was running about 700 to 850 MB for over year and then my November - December usage was over 1.7 TB with no change on my end. So far this billing period I'm running just under 50GB a day, with some days at 40GB and others at 80GB. I have no idea what is causing the fluctuations.

Good to know I am not alone. I was finally able to speak to ATT Help last night and I'm afraid to report that they were no help at all.
I have a Netgear Nighthawk running from their supplied modem/gateway. Since I do that, ATT cannot see which devices are connected to my network. I'll admit, I never monitor usage on anything, but when I opened my Nighthawk app, I saw that everything connected to my network, I recognized and knew...with the exception of one off "computer." I think it may be an old tablet so I blocked it anyway. We shall see, but I am thinking there will be no changes to these extreme usage rates and ATT will again be of no help when I report back to them what I already knew.

When I checked the att.com usage chart at midnight last night, it showed I had already used up 26Gb so obviously it doesn't start the next day then. And that seemed too much for UTC time since that's only 8 hrs. Turns out it changes at 10pm (PST).
However, I monitored the site throughout today and it's about as janky as I'd expect from an AT&T tool. I know our solar panels can give back to the power company but I didn't realize I had some sort of equipment to give back bandwidth! 🙄

Don't try and get any information about this issue (or any technical issue that isn't fixed by rebooting or replacing the gateway) from AT&T "support". Giant waste of your time and an unnecessary spike in your BP.
I was hoping we'd get more people showing up to report this but I suspect that unless someone is on a plan that has a data cap, none of the others would ever even notice. I've got one more idea to try to grab attention to it so let's see what comes of that.
If we can get more than a few of us then when I ask for it to be escalated we'll have a better chance of getting action. Unfortunately the holidays and end of year vacations are really shutting down any internal AT&T contacts so I'm not even going to try to push it up the chain until everyone is back next week.

Thanks for adding to our collection, @JoeRut. Is that date near your billing date?
What sort of avg usage have you had in previous months, still below 800?

11/21-11/22 seems to be the dates things happened. Funny: customer service chat today and they said they were putting it to the “escalation” team and to expect a call in 5-10 min. Of course no call ever came and they seemed to be driving at an upgraded plan vs. telling me why this is happening when my plan is PLENTY for just me. And the dog, but we already addressed that!
