Internet discount due to Hurricane Ida

Due to Hurricane Ida, I was under a mandatory evacuation beginning 8/28/2021. I couldn’t return to my home until electricity and water was restored which didn’t occur until 9/18/21. My AT&T bill for this period was auto drafted and paid in full for the period that my power was not restored and AT&T internet was also down due to Hurricane damages. Why didn’t AT&T credit my account for the period of when my internet was down or until their internet was repaired?

Because credits for service being out don’t happen automatically. You must call and request bill credit.

Did you call AT&T early on to report the lack of service?

No, I did not call early on. However, I will today. My fault, but being displaced for almost 3 weeks had my mind on other things. I will certainly address it with AT&T today.

I actually heard a rumor recently that AT&T wouldn’t automatically apply a credit. Customers would have to call them. It wasn’t until my bill was paid through auto draft, did I realize that a credit wasn’t issued, ergo rumor may be true. I’ll keep you posted.

It’s not a rumor, it’s true. In most cases the billing system does not know your service was out. That is why you must call to get credit.
