When is Fiber coming to Kentwood, MI?

Keep getting the run around.  Fiber is available NW Grand Rapids.  But not in Kentwood MI?

Only availability is "Internet 100" which is rebadged AT&T DSL with connection still thru a phone outlet (ethernet).

Thanks.

There is fiber to the NW of intersection and to the east

Click on map, then choose fiber, then zoom in to location.
This is current updated about every 6 months.
Does not show underway, only where ordering should be an option

Grand Rapids metro area including Kentwood already has some fiber.

Not all addresses will receive the service.

By 2026 an additional 15 million residential addresses will receive the service during phase 2 2021-end 2025 complimenting the 15 million provided during phase 1 from 2016-end 2020.These 30 million fiber addresses will be 50% of the Uverse platform hardwired services in 90+ markets covering 21 states.

Internet 100 is the top FTTN (Fiber To The Node) VDSL service deployed from 2006-end 2015. After new construction,  FTTN locations are mostly likely to be upgraded to direct fiber. That’s the good news, your service is prime for upgrade. The bad news is at start of 2021 there were 23 million FTTN addresses, down from the 33 million end of 2015 expansion.

Means 10 million were upgraded during phase 1, if same occurs during phase there will still be 13 million addresses with FTTN as best option.

Your choices are wait for and IF or WHEN moment in next (4) years, use a different ISP switching to ATT if fiber becomes available or consider relocating to one of the 17.5 million addresses that currently has ATT fiber.

Note I did not check to see if any FTTP fiber is available within zip codes for Kentwood, but I suspect someareas are…  some areas may in future,  some areas will not by 2026.

If wish to post major intersection close by with zip code could help determine how close existing fiber neighborhoods are.

Thanks!  A zip 49508 and cross streets Breton Rd SE and 44th St SE.

Boundary Kentwood and GR

Do all installs require an Ethernet line from Gateway to wall or can it be coaxial?

Thank you again!  Zoomed in and well it’s literally all across the street from our location and East just missing all of us right now.

ATT BGW gateway gateways do not have coax connection…. Everything would be either Ethernet or wireless for you devices.

Depending on install would have fiber straight to the gateway (320) or to an ONT with Ethernet to gateway (210).

So if this map is update every 6 months, it is definitely wrong for my area... https://broadbandnow.com/ATT
I used the https://www.att.com/buy/broadband/offers.html to look up multiple addresses in my neighborhood and created this map:
So odd that the fiber is only available in those 2 streets. They were the last part of the development, but come on AT&T! Why not build out the rest of the neighborhood?! I'm over in the Green highlighted section, and of course my only option is DSL "up to" 50Mbps down for $55/month. and I'm sure its only like 768Kbps Upload.
How is that supposed to compete with my only other option... Comcast, Ugh, Comshaft... Which at the moment is 600Mbps/20Mbps, but the rate keeps going up.... and don't even get me started on their data caps. what a scam.

So after 1 year since my last post and STILL waiting... NO AT&T contact, trucks or notifications about FTTH IN my part of the neighborhood (see above picture/post... .)

HOWEVER, Metronet is currently doing the construction in my area and zone, got the post card from them a few weeks ago.

AT&T, you better get your but in gear or your going to miss out on a ton of customers!
