Fiber not available at my house, but available across the street
About a year ago, maybe a bit more, line techs came through my area, working on telephone poles. At one point they were working on the pole that my Uverse connection comes from. I asked what they were up to, and they said they were installing fiber. Since then, I've checked fiber availability at my place about once a month. It's never available. The coverage map during this time said that my area (Birmingham, AL) was still being connected. Today I checked, and it says Birmingham is done. So I checked the availability at my apartment, and it still says I can't get fiber. I'm in the middle of a city and I'm stuck with 6mb Uverse (3.5 in actual practice.) I know someone who lives on farmland who can get faster Uverse speeds.
So I checked the fiber availability for the places around me. The other apartment buildings on my side of the street are out of luck. But the house across the street from me, which is getting its AT&T connection from the same telephone pole that I am, can get fiber with 1000mb. This doesn't make sense to me.
I called AT&T to find out what's going on, but nobody can tell me anything, except for my last call tech saying, "Engineering decides who gets fiber, and they're not accountable to anyone, nor can they be contacted from anyone outside of Engineering." The best explanation for why I don't have fiber at my place--when my neighbour across the street can get it--is "politics," which is an irritatingly vague answer.
I've been with AT&T for 9 years, paying absurd prices for infinitesimal speeds. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to make fiber accessible to me. The telephone pole is right next to my place, maybe 20 feet farther from my house than from my neighbour who is eligible for fiber. What in the world is going on, and why does my address always get the shaft?

You can visit this forum for possible reasons why the service is not available in your area. Please sign up to be notified when AT&T Fiber is available for you.
If the service is available, you can order it from the provided links. Future plans for fiber installation can be found here.
Thanks

Thanks for the information. Is this necessary even though all of the apartments in our building are already connected via copper to the same box that provides fiber and Uverse to the rest of the neighbourhood? Is there some installation issue standing in the way that I don't know about?

Same situation here, however in my case it's single family residences.
Fiber was run to the neighborhood about a year ago, and the website shows fiber availability to the surrounding neighborhood, including neighbors on three sides of me just a few feet away. All served by the same pole. But unavailable to my address.
It seems like a mistake in their database, but it's impossible to get anyone on the phone who can explain or investigate in more detail.

I have the same problem. My backyard neighbor sharing the same utility pole has AT&T fiber available from AT&T web site, but my house does not. My neighbor on the same side of street 5 houses away has it. How could that be possible ?
I chatted with AT&T and the lady gives me 800-288-2020 and mention 'Tech Support' to report this bug. Well, it's too late to call tonight.
I will try 844-855-1539 too tomorrow.

And, our address is at least 50 years old. They need to have a way for people to report those bugs.

same and I just called and said it wasn't available to my home yet, but the pole WITH the fiber is literally 5 feet away from my home and outside att box on my exterior wall. When questioned when it would be available, they transferred me to home security specialty service to sell me a home security system instead of speaking to me about the fiber installation. To try and sell me on crap I am not asking about. Can't very well get a home security system without viable internet. 100 mbs WILL NOT CUT IT!! I have 6 people in my household. ABSOLUTELY DONE WITH ATT!!!
