New Fiber Install in GA Only Getting 150Mbps Speed
We recently had Fiber installed (Alpharetta, GA) and our connection speeds are atrocious. At the time of installation the only devices available to test for speed were iPads and the wireless signal was about 200 Mbps on the 5GHz band of a brand new top of the line Asus AC5300 router (firmware updated) connected to the ATT gateway. My rendering rig was still packaged from the move.
Even worse, last night I got my workstation up and running, and hard-wired speeds are only 125-150 Mbps with no difference if wired to the router or the gateway. It is not my rig by any means. It is a 2 month old ThreadRipper 1950X build for rendering and editing. Even turning off the anti-virus the speed only increased to about 225 Mbps....
I called AT&T and they were of little help. Their speed-test page shows 998 / 995 Mbps up/down to their gateway, however that’s where the speed ends. The gateway is a BGW210. I asked if there were any setting in the gateway that might be causing the bottleneck; the CS rep stated no and said they could only send a technician out this weekend to diagnose.
So far I’m very disappointed with this service. I would have just stayed with Xfinity had I known the speeds would be so bad. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
