Legacy Digital Life with New Fiber Service

I moved into a home which used to have Digital life security.   The previous owners discontinued service, but all the devices and controllers installed and powered.    On one of the first move in days AT&T came out to activate my internet service.   The tech checked the box outside the house where the signal came in and then we proceeded to the office which as a CAT5 wall jack installed.  He connected the new modem to the wall jack and powered up and it connected and I rejoiced that I had internet and sent him on his way.  Now a few weeks later I wanted to stop wasting electricity on the digital life system and I unplugged the DLC100 box in my basement and a second box in my garage which has a blue alarm reset button on the outside.   This however then terminated my connection to the broadband fiber service.   Plugged them back in and internet returns.   What needs to be plugged in for my internet to continue to work and can it be easily bypassed?

It really sounds like you turned off the ONT power supply and battery back backup for your Fiber Internet. That thing in the garage. Turn it back on and your Internet be up in about 4-5 minutes or less.

@bkuritz

Good afternoon,

I apologize you are having an issue with your internet service when disconnecting the Digital Life DLC-100 controller. Your internet service should not be interrupted when you disconnect the DLC-100 or any other Digital Life device. It sounds like the AT&T internet installer may have connected your internet in a way that makes it dependent on your DLC being connected.

Is the internet interruption on wired devices (PC using CAT-5) or is it also disconnecting your Wi-Fi devices (mobile phones, tablets, etc.)?

I am moving your post to the Internet forum where an internet specialist can assist but I will follow the conversation so I can assist if needed.

Thanks again.

Can you give more information on "the second box in [your] garage which has a blue alarm reset button?"  An "alarm reset" button sounds like a BBU, so it might be supplying power for your Fiber ONT.

JefferMC.   Thank you.   I think you are on point it is an AT&T DC UPS searching for the AT&T Battery Backup Unit and I immediately found a picture of the same unit in the garage.  So that is unrelated to the DLC100 and I can unplug the DLC100 and just leave the UPS plugged in the garage and all should be well.   I will try that tonight.
