Honeywell Thermostat Not Working Since Fiber Internet Installed

My Honeywell smart thermostat was working fine the morning of the install of our new fiber internet service. That evening we updated the wifi network on the unit to connect to the new ISP. Now whenever the temp reaches the set temp for the heater to turn on the AC turns on instead, which isn't much fun in January. We have rebooted the thermostat but no luck.  Anyone have this issue and/or a suggested fix? The HVAC system was installed in 2021. The thermostat was installed maybe 6-8 years prior and hasn't had any issues.

What you're experiencing sounds like more than just a network connection issue.

However, assuming it is only a network connection issue, you may find that the Thermostat doesn't like the Gateway's band steering, where both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have a common SSID allowing devices to shift between.  You can avoid this particular issue by either using the Guest Network SSID (which is always 2.4 GHz only) or by giving the two bands different SSIDs (under Advanced Settings on the Gateway's Wi-Fi page) and using the 2.4 GHz SSID when setting up the Thermostat.

Thanks, JefferMC, I will give those things a try. It certainly could be a major coincidence that it all happened at the same time. Thanks again!

Hey @mjdudas, we understand that you're having trouble with your thermostat not working correctly with your new internet install. We're here to help.

As the Ace stated that could be due to the device trying to connect to the wrong band. We recommend that you try what the Ace suggested.

Please let us know if that works for you.

And I'm here to help by confirming that what ATTHelp Charles said about doing what @JefferMC and @Constructive said is what you should do.  🙄
