Why is my AT&T Fiber so slow
I have had ATT Fiber in my residence for 3 years and the entire time it has been very slow. Typical download speeds have been 2-3 Mbits pretty consistently, with sometimes the speeds going to 10-30 Mbits. Currently I have the 300 Mbit package. But this was the same when I had 50 Mbit and 100 Mbit. I am standing right next to the router, on a clear channel and I keep getting these bad results. Sometimes the upload result will be 40 or 50Mbits, despite the slow download. This is still well below rated speed, but it is faster for some reason.
I have called support several times and sometimes they say there is a line problem, but the techs that come out don't seem to detect one. They have replaced my modem more than once and it hasn't solved the problem. Anecdotally it does seem worse on the 2.4Ghz band. But then again, there aren't *that* many networks around me even if there were I should be able to get more than 2-3Mbits download standing next to the router. These same devices get much faster speeds on other more congested networks at my office and school.
Is there something else I can do here to improve things? I have a PACE 5268 modem. I only have an iPhone and iPad connecting now, and a fooBot temperature/airquality monitor. Not a lot of demand on my network.

I got this reply to a thread that I started on the same topic: https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-fiber-equipment/why-is-my-fiber-so-slow/5f303e51bd2550637aac67c4
My understanding is that the sheer amount of routing and peering that goes on for every 'net connection makes 1000Mbps only likely within the AT&T network, the rest is out of their control. (My connections are wired, not wifi)
"The speed test on your router shows the speeds within the AT&T network. The 970 Mbps down / 890 Mbps up are great numbers for a Fiber 1000 connection. Note that this is not the speed that you will get on your PC, Laptop or tablet.
Any tests to speedtest.net show the actual real world speeds that you might expect to see at any web site or internet service. This accounts for peering and internet routing to the various speed test hosting locations.
Also consider that each of the speed test servers are host 100's or 1000's of others on the internet running these useless speed tests."

The reason the tech was able to read your speeds at a high rate, is that att and comcast you what is called speed burst tests. That registers a higher than actual speed test rating. A real speed test takes about 8-10 minutes and att and comcast are famous for this scam.

OK, I have been searching for ways to improve my speed and this site proved useful: https://keemanxp.com/blog/2010/8-useful-tips-on-how-to-speed-up-your-wired-broadband.html and in particular this item: 6. Tweak your internet speed using optimizer
Specifically I downloaded this (free) app: TCP Optimizer 4 from here - https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php and ran it with the speed slider all the way to the right.
It took my SpeedTest.net average DL from 155Mbps to 930Mbps, so what ever it did it made a heck of a difference!
YMMV but it worked for me. (I have no affiliation with this app)

Roscoe, I'll give this a shot. Seems kinda suspect that a third party app would be that big of a difference, but I believe you. Anything will help. Haha. Thanks for forwarding this along.
