Several issues with new fiber line (Speed issue, router issue, WIFI issue)
We just recently moved over from Spectrum as soon as fiber was available in our area (Direct TV stream and Internet using a BGW320-505 gateway), and I'm seeing several issues. I apologize for the lengthy post.
1) I'm supposed to be seeing 1000 up and down (which I "do" on the smart home app which supposedly tests speeds coming into the gateway), but when I run a speed test on my Xbox Series X, I'm only getting 360 down and like 230 up (this is a wired connection with Cat6 Cable). This is a slower download speed than I saw with spectrum, and when I run a speed test on my phone connected to WIFI, I'm getting the same download speed, and a higher upload speed. It seems like something is a bit off here. I connected one of my old laptops that still has an ethernet port directly to the router and still go a super low speed test.
2) I initially (and ultimately) wanted to retain the use of my Nighthawk XR1000 Router. It's set up for gaming and has features that the gateway doesn't. Plus the WIFI devices wouldn't have to be changed to a new WIFI. I plugged the router in to the gateway and it seemed to work, but my download speeds were around 380 or so which I know my router optimized my connection and capped it around 380 down. So I went to go change that to optimize the 1000 down I'm supposed to get, and I could no longer log into my router. I did some research and it seems like setting it in passthrough could fix that issue. I might have done it wrong, but it didn't fix it so I changed it back.
3)My WIFI name never changed until I logged into the gateway itself and changed it. I tried to change the WIFI through the smarthome app, but it never broadcasted that new name (I kept seeing the default name show up). In fact it would revert back to the default name in the app after a reboot. So I logged into the gateway and changed the WIFI name and password there, and it worked.
4)While on the subject of WIFI, I noticed a bunch of random devices connected to the gate way in the smarthome app that I didn't recognize. With the router I'm pretty sure I recognized all of the devices connected to the network.
I know it's a lot, but I didn't expect to have this many issues right out of the gate. Hopefully I can work on it some today with the right help, and get some of these issues, if not all of them, resolved.

I would suggest you start with your IP/Passthrough setup and verify that you have it setup properly. Fiber 1000 delivering Fiber 300 speeds using your third-party router points to a configuration issue.
Which instructions did you follow in setting up IP/Passthrough mode?
Here are some examples:
https://help.sonic.com/hc/en-us/articles/360059074954-How-to-configure-your-AT-T-modem-for-use-with-a-3rd-party-router
https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-internet/KM1188700
https://robotpoweredhome.com/netgear-nighthawk-att-uverse-fiber/
It is best to leave your BGW320 in the default network of 192.168.1.0 where the router is at 192.168.1.254.
Setup your LAN for your Nighthawk XR1000 for a network at 192.168.2.0 with your Nighthawk XR1000's LAN port at 192.168.2.254.
That will allow the AT&T Gateway to setup the route statements between the 2 networks.
Your Xbox One speed is really tied to it's own Ethernet adapter. Which one do you have?
You should manage your Wi-Fi setting and all BGW320 based settings directly on the web UP at 192.168.1.254. Once you get your Nighthawk XR1000 setup complete you can turn off the radios on the BGW320 under the "Advanced settings" http://192.168.1.254/cgi-bin/wconfig.ha

Dave, I used a method similar to the first, but instead of fixed I used dynamic, so maybe that's where the first issue was? I was actually looking at the second link you sent when I was trying it. I'll try it with fixed passthrough, and figure out how to turn off the BGW320 radios and see if that takes care of the router issue. Will that provide the router with the 1000mbps up/down and allow the router to allocate bandwidth and prioritize connections like it was doing before without any interference from the ATT Gateway?
Sounds like the gateway and the router were conflicting which was why I couldn't log into my router. I'll be up front and say that I'm not crazy knowledgeable about some of the more detailed stuff like where you mentioned setting up the LAN for the Nighthawk, but it does make sense. Do you have any more detail on how that's done for someone not as well versed in the advanced settings game? It sounds like I'll need to do this first before I can access my router settings if there are conflicting network IPs.
The xbox I have is the new Series X if that's what your asking. It's supposed to be a typical gigabit ethernet port.

You do speed test with a hardwired connection not through Wi-Fi which is normally slower.

I did. I ran a speed test hard wired with an old laptop (not an accurate number because of the age of the laptop), but the XBOX is hard wired as well. I was seeing 400+ with spectrum through the same new Cat6 cables which was the speed I was paying for, and I saw a lot higher speeds back when I had google fiber. I'm assuming, like Dave mentioned, it's going to be a configuration issue.
I'm going to run another speed test with a different computer, once again wired directly to the ATT gateway, to see what it reads, then run through the passthrough steps. I just found it funny that my wired Xbox was getting slower speeds than my wireless phone.

Just got home and about to start trying a few things, but ran a speed test again with my work laptop, wired directly into the BGW320 and I'm only getting 390 down/372 up on this too.

I got it through passthrough, and disabled both bands of wifi on the gate way, and I'm getting internet through the router, but I need come instructions on this part to be able to get into the router:
Setup your LAN for your Nighthawk XR1000 for a network at 192.168.2.0 with your Nighthawk XR1000's LAN port at 192.168.2.254

It turns out that the issues were caused by me having the wrong gateway. They gave me someone else's gateway and they had mine. The tech swapped the gateways, and everything is good to go now for the most part. Thanks for everyone's help

@Mike_Honcho , in the future, try to stay in just one thread so we don't have different conversations going on with the same set of (at least potentially) related problems.
