ONT is in garage; will BGW210 need to be in there too?
I rent a 3 bedroom home with a garage. The internal ONT box is located in the garage and the external ONT box is on the opposite side of the wall outside.
I'm waiting for a tech to come to help with installation (sometime next week) and would like some thoughts / ideas / opinions...
My concern is that the BGW210 will need to stay in the garage, which could potentially cause decreased wifi strength throughout the house +/- it becomes too hot or cold for it there in the garage.
If the solution for this is to drill holes in the walls and install wires inside the house, this presents complications since I am renting my home and can not do any alterations to the property.
Are there any alternatives to this?

The AT&T gateway needs to be connected to the ONT via Ethernet. It doesn't need to be near the ONT at all, but unless you can figure out a way to get an Ethernet cable from the garage to wherever you want the BGW without drilling holes I don't see any other viable option (something like Powerline networking using your home's electrical wiring seems ill-advised for this purpose).

Do you think the wifi strength would be significantly decreased if it were located in the garage ?
I'm trying to determine if I should just sign up for Spectrum instead. 🥲

There's really no way to tell, wifi defies logic at times. So much depends on your home's layout, building materials, where you need wifi signal, big things in the way, surrounding wifi competing with yours, etc etc etc.
It could work great in the garage or you may find that you need to get something like a mesh system to help spread the wifi signal to places it can't reach.
You don't have a way to determine what the situation was with the prior tenant, huh?
Is the home wired for coax already, so no need to run another cable to get Spectrum inside the home?

Sounds like you have an external ONT with an internal UPS and power supply. AT&T no longer installs this configuration. If you have an installer coming--unless you insist otherwise--I'd think they'd remove this dinosaur and run the fiber into the home, and by into the home, I mean wherever you can agree with him it will go that he can reach with the fiber.
Garages are not usually considered acceptable homes for Gateways, as they are not generally environmentally controlled and will often depart the operating temperature and humidity range for the Gateways.
