Netgear router wont connect through the att gateway modem.

Netgear Nighthawk R7350. Wifi works but the ethernet connection through the Motorola NVG589 gateway doesn’t. I have tried all the recommended passthrough configurations including both dynamic and fixed DHCP.  The gateway does not report the router’s MAC address - it does show all the other devices on the network.

Set it up as an access point using the netgear instructions. There is a netgear app for setting up their devices. It should be referenced in the instructions.

We see that you tried both dynamic and fixed DHCP, but have you tried the manual configuration?

 

If you follow the directions under the DHCPS-Fixed section, you'll locate the manual instructions for setting up third party devices.

What do you want the netgear to do? Act as an access point or handle all routing?

If an access point, follow the netgear instructions for an access point. 

If a router, follow the ip passthrough instructions. The netgear will get its own IP address when you restart it. Leave the gateway on its default ip range. Change the netgear to a different range. Typically change the third range from 1 to 2

I don’t know if I want an access point or a router.  I just know that I want better Wi-Fi. I have a small house but it still has dead spots  that only get 1-2 Mbps. Moving the ATT box hasn’t helped so I thought I would try an updated Netgear beamforming router. I didn’t expect the configuration to be a nightmare. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect Netgear technical support to know how their own router is labeled. It doesn’t help to be given a long list of different things to try. I need one set of instructions that will work.

I have the same problem and called ATT now like 5 times but my netgear MR60 will not work either

The Netgear app is very simple. It confirms the wifi and says there is no internet. It does not give options to choose router or access point. The hardwire Ethernet connection to the router setup gives more options but they did not work and the setup is extremely slow to respond to any input.

If I set it as an access point then how should the ATT Motorola Arris NVG589 be configured? Pass through mode? How to configure the DHCP?

Nothing would change in the gateway if the the netgear is in access point mode.
