My internet connection is lost for a seconds every five minutes or so

My internet connection is lost for a few seconds every five minutes or so.  I have to wait a few minutes for everything to be online again.

Are you Wi-Fi connected or Ethernet?

Does your device say it has lost the Wi-Fi connection?

Are you using a separate router, or just the AT&T Gateway?

So you have your own router in addition to the AT&T Gateway?

How is that configured?

IP Passthrough?

What is the IP Passthrough DHCP Lease time?  (10 minutes?)

No - I have the BGW210-700 router from AT&T and the AT&T Gateway

What is this device you're calling a Gateway?  Describe it further, please.  It's probably actually an ONT, because the BGW210 is actually your Gateway.  BGW stands for "Broadband GateWay".

it just loses connection.

Please elucidate on "just loses connection."  How do you know it's lost its connection?  Are you psychic?  Does it scream?

I have BGW 210-700 and AT&T Wifi Extender.

My ethernet connection on my laptop will lose connection.  I am unable to access the internet for about and it will re-connect.

Okay, the thing labeled Airties is a Wireless Extender.  It's job is to make Wi-Fi coverage better.

Is your computer's Ethernet cable plugged into the BGW210 or this Airties device?

will lose connection

You said that.  I'm trying to figure out (a) how you know that, and (b) what information that might yield about the actual underlying problem.

I am unable to access the internet

Okay, that's a tiny amount better:

Do you get error messages in the browser?

Does the Windows Network Icon display "No Internet"?

The BGW210 is in the basement and the Airties device is in my office.  I have an ethernet connection from the basement to my office which is upstairs and the Airties device is in my office.  I have an ethernet cable from my laptop into the Airties device.  I have had it this way for over a year.  Not sure why the connection is not working anymore.  It is intermediate.

Ah.  Okay, yes, that's the sort of thing I was looking for.  As an experiment, I'd suggest that you bypass the Airties for a half hour or so and connect your Laptop directly to the cable from the BGW210.  See if this corrects your symptoms.  If so, then we can continue to troubleshoot why the original configuration isn't working.  If not, then we can exclude the Airties as part of the issue and move on to the BGW210 and/or the cable to the BGW210.

Nope, still didn't solve the problem.

Okay, then the issue isn't the Airties.  It could be the wiring, it could be the BGW210.  I'd suggest taking your laptop to where the BGW210 is and connecting it directly to the BGW210: (1) in the same port you have the cable running to your room with the AirTies, and (2) in a different port.

If (1) and (2) both work, then the issue would seem to be with the cabling between the BGW and your remote room.  If (1) doesn't work, and (2) does, then you seem to have a bad port.  Put your cable to your remote room in the port you used for (2) and see if everything works.  If neither (1) nor (2) works, maybe your laptop has a bad Ethernet port or maybe the BGW210 has a problem and needs replacing.

We're here to assist with your internet connectivity, @Truth2121.

As @JefferMC kindly pointed out, the issue with your connection could potentially lie within your equipment. To fix this, there are a few troubleshooting steps we recommend taking to try and resolve the issue.

  1. Download the Smart Home Manager app. With this, you can manage, monitor, and troubleshoot your home network with a few easy clicks.
  2. Perform a factory reset of the gateway. This can help with clearing up any configuration issues within your gateway that could potentially be the reason your connection has been intermittent. (Note: Please be sure to jot down any custom settings such as your network name and password before doing this).

Let us know how these steps work for you!

JefferMC - Thank you.  I will try those suggestions and let you know.

AT&T Help - I appreciate the post but I have tried everything you suggested before I posted on the forum.
