iPhone disconnect from wifi, does not auto connect and requires password to connect every time

I switched to ATT Fiber a couple of months back. Since then, I noticed my Cell phone plan consumed Cell phone data quickly, so I started paying attention to connecting to home wifi as I work from home.

Issue observed :

1. My iPhone X, frequently gets disconnected from home wifi.

2. When I come home, it does not connect to the home Wi-Fi automatically

3. To connect to Wifi, I have to enter wifi password every single time

The problem does not go away, as it is stated in another thread to reboot my ATT device ( tried multiple times).

iPhone is up to date on OS, and Wi-Fi setting is set to auto-join

I do not believe this is my phone issue, as when I walk into Panera, it auto-connects just fine.

I hope someone has a solution for this.

I appreciate your help!

We understand, and we're here to help get you connected to your network, Mahen_A2023TT_Forum!

Try resetting your Wi-Fi gateway to clear glitches in your connectivity:

Before doing a factory reset, which will delete custom settings, try to reboot your Wi-Fi gateway.

  1. Press and hold the gateway Reset button for at least 10 seconds. If you let go before 10 seconds, the gateway will reboot, but it won’t reset.
  2. Wait until the gateway restarts and all the status lights are lit.
  3. See if the Broadband or Service status lights are solid green. If so, the reset worked.

There can be a few reasons why you are having difficulty getting your iPhone connected to your network. For example, there may be a software update that is affecting your ability to connect. There is more information on that, as well as other steps you can try at our article regarding Wi-Fi Troubleshooting for a Single Device.

Another option we suggest from that article is using our Smart Home Manager application to check your network, including checking to see if your iPhone is showing on it.

Let us know if this helps!

I reset the gateway which reset all settings including SID, and reconfigured it. Rejoined the network on my iPhone but the problem persisted. I am in the middle of an iPhone upgrade so going to check this again after switching to the new phone.

Hello, Just an update. I got my new iPhone 15 pro and followed your instructions to reset the ATT device again and ran into the same issue. It would not auto-connect and every time I want to connect I have to enter the password it is very frustrating.

Sorry I am back !!

Looks like problem is not resolved.

after reset network on my new iPhone as you suggested. I tested by turning wi-fi off on the phone and it reconnected automatically ( I was trying to simulate scenarios as if I can disconnected when I step out of home ) and it worked. but when I actually stepped out in the evening and came back home it did not reconnect automatically , I have again have connect to the SID and it asked to enter the password.

Let me know what steps I should take now .

Appreciate your help,

Hi @Mahen_A2023TT_Forum,

We hear you, we're here to make things is easy for you.

To auto-connect to Wi-Fi on a mobile device, you need to:

  • Open your device's settings app.
  • Tap Network & internet Internet.
  • Tap a listed network. Networks that require a password have a lock icon.
  • Tap Auto-join to turn the function on. If the toggle is green, the function has already been turned on. If the toggle is not green, it will be off.
  • Once turned on, your device will automatically connect to the chosen Wi-Fi network whenever in range.

Also we recommend that you go through on managing Wi-Fi on your mobile device article.

Let us know how it goes!
