Internet access drops sporadiaclly
I recently got ATT Fiber installed [10 days ago] and I'll be working online for a while and then it just cuts out and I have to go to my available networks and manually connect. Rather frustrating. Can someone tell me why this is happening? It didn't happen with XFinity !
FYI - the wire is not buried yet. It was supposed to be yesterday.
Any suggestions?

Don't worry about the warning about band steering. If you change BOTH the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz SSIDs, then all your devices will need to be changed to one or the other of the new names. If you change just one, then your devices will all connect to the band remaining with the original SSID. I recommend changing the 5 GHz SSID.

We can help you improve your Internet connection, MikieFiberUser.
If you're using an Ethernet connection, try troubleshooting with our guide on How to Troubleshoot your Wired Connections. You can also try a simple router reboot to refresh and reestablish the connection.
If you're connected via Wi-Fi, check out our guide on How to Improve Wi-Fi & Internet Speed. The sections titled Troubleshoot Internet Loss Of Service and Get the most of out your internet are the ones you'll want to focus on.
When it comes to the unburied wire, it shouldn't have an affect on your connection, unless it's damaged. If it is, let us know so we can work on getting it repaired.
We hope this information helped, but if you need further assistance, let us know.

Thanks for the info.
I don't think the wire is damaged.
Maybe the problem might be that I'm using a 11 year old laptop and it's not use to handling the 300Mbps speed that the fiber is sending. I will try to monitor the issue for a while since I've only had ATT Fiber for a short time.
I've been online for a couple of hours and it hasn't disconnected yet [knock on wood].
Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas.

Sounds like your laptop is losing its Wi-Fi connection to the Gateway? With a laptop that old, you might want to:
(a) turn off band steering by giving the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands different names (or SSIDs).
(b) lock the 2.4 GHz channel in the Gateway to one of the list: 1, 6 or 11.
Both of these things can be done in the Gateway by visiting http://192.168.1.254/ , clicking on Home Network > Wi-Fi, then clicking on Advanced Options.

I have a lot of family around for the holidays and I need to get access to the code on the box when I get the time.
Will doing these changes affect my access to other wifi hot spots ?

We're here to help with your Wi-Fi connection, @MikieFiberUser!
It's possible that making these changes will cause devices connected to lose connection, resulting in having to reconnect each device. Just changing the name should not cause any connection issues with your hot spots.
Let us know id you have any other questions!

Hi, @MikieFiberUser!
Yes, the two channels you have, the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, you would be naming them unique names to identify them from each other.
