Internet 1000 through Fiber direct wired connection shows ~200-300Mbps speed

Just got the Internet 1000 installed at my place. Been running speed tests to see what I am getting, and surprise, never above 300Mbps!!!

This is a laptop connected to ethernet port of BGW210-700 with a Cat5e cable, no other devices are connected.

Speeds are abysmal. Smarthomemanager shows 900+ at the gateway (?) but doesn't translate to speeds from the gateway to a wired connection device!!

I have 2 more days to return this.

We want to help you get the most out of your speed, @thebrakashes!

Have you tried using a different device?

Where are you running your speed test? Try the AT&T speed test to see if it shows any different results on different servers.

You may also want to see if you get faster speeds through a different ethernet port on your gateway, or if you get faster speed through a WiFi connection, so we can narrow down the problem.

If you haven't, you should also reboot your gateway, since this can clear up most internet hiccups.

Let us know if this helps, or give us more information, so we know what to do next.

after some more tinkering, I am now seeing reasonable speeds.

Thank you.

Hey, @thebrakashes maybe you could post what you changed.  In case you haven't noticed there are three or seventeen thousand people in here with the same problems you have.  Any info on what worked for you might help some of them.

@tonydi I used the dumb bypass solution on the internet. Worked to a point where I could get my router to see 800+ Mbps speeds on a consistent basis. My network includes a pi-hole and moca networks. Looks like I need to further investigate some drop-offs from time to time.

Heh, yeah, getting rid of the horrid gateway is often the only way to get full performance out of these fiber connections.
