How to use your own router with Fiber BGW210-700

Just got fiber today, but want to use my own router (Netgear xr500). I told the technician, but he said he was not sure how and to call technical support. I called and they're trying to charge me 49.99 for remote access my computer and do it. I feel like that's a crazy amount. I did look up an old article that said i needed to "ip passthrough" but got kinda confused. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

You cannot swap the BGW with a 3rd party router. You can only setup your Netgear router after the BGW through ethernet connection. Close wifi at BGW and create IP pasthrough for netgear. This way netgear will be in charge or routing and BGW will be as modem

Yeah that’s exactly what I want to do. Sorry if I made it sound confusing.

(Edited per community guidelines) - any Ethernet device connected to the ONT will get a public IP address from the "light-speed" range and you're set!

@SuperMario87 what about U-verse TV? Home phone? Will those still work doing a router behind the BGW using IP pass through?
