How to create AiMesh network with Uverse modem/router

I just switched from Comcast coaxial service to AT&T fiber with a Uverse modem/router. My old AiMesh system had a Comcast modem (no wifi) to which I attached an ASUS wifi router with a few ASUS nodes throughout the house.

I will be buying a new Wifi 6E AiMesh system. Is it possible to use the Uverse modem/router as the main wifi router and just add nodes, or will I need to shut off the Uverse's wifi and connect a router of the same type as the nodes (e.g. ASUS or Netgear)?

To add, if you are spending the money on a mesh wifi system, why use them as nodes? Put the gateway in ip passthrough mode to the mesh router, then set up the nodes.

You should be able to set up the Nodes as access points, following the manufacturers instructions.

This sounds right. Do I simply switch Wi-Fi off in the configuration settings, or is there more to it?
