Ethernet speed drop on Fiber

We have had AT&T fiber for several years and the hardwired connection speed has always been good until recently.  The only change we have had is a new Gateway but I do not think the speed dropped happened until weeks later.  Everything else seems fine but the ethernet speed.  We replaced our switch as it was very old, but even with a brand new Netgear GS308 gigabit switch, the speed hasn't changed.  I chatted with support and they said they scheduled an appointment for me but I never got a confirmation and nobody showed up.

How do you know your speeds dropped?

Speed tests and noticeable lag.

Try different speeds test sites. Run the internal gateway Speedtest and run the gateway diagnostics. It’s possible network routing somewhere on the internet is bogging down. This could resolve itself if network engineers correct it.

I did run different tests. My Wi-Fi is fine and the gateway is fine. It’s consistently slow over Ethernet. I also tried different devices at different connection points.

Start checking all your network devices. Try connecting your switch to different gateway ports. Still slow speeds? Try connecting a ethernet device directly to the gateway. Still speed problems, put a different switch in place of the newer one. If no speed problems directly connected to the gateway. It could be the switch. Since it appears to be a smart switch, a reset may solve the problem. It’s possible some ports may be set to 100 mb.

As I wrote earlier, the speed when connected to the gateway is fine. We replaced the switch thinking it was that, but it didn’t change.
