Dropped internet connection several times a day with 2Wire Model and ASUS Mesh router

For the last couple of months I started having occasional glitches in my service. With my older Plume Superpod mesh network these outages would happen and cause DNS issues for a minute or two. Working with Plume support (who are great btw), we tried several setting changes but the problems still occurred. So a week ago, I spent $500 on an ASUS Zen Wifi ET8. My speeds are great and I can reach my whole house. However now I get connection drops every hour or two. This affects all my devices. I lose connection and get kicked out of online games. Browsing sessions start spinning. Video calls freeze etc. This usually only lasts for seconds, but it is very frustrating and disruptive. Please advise on how I can set this up to work without the glitches.

Here is a helpful link on how to configure your 5268ac unit using DMZPlus mode:

https://www.att.com/support/smallbusiness/article/smb-internet/KM1188700

You want to pick the "manual" section of the instructions for your 2-Wire Pace 5268ac.

Normally the regular web port for your ASUS would be 80 / 443 ( HTTPS ) connections.

What exact model of AT&T Gateway do you have?

How is your ASUS Zen Wifi ET8 connected to your AT&T Gateway. For example what port are you using on your ASUS Zen Wifi ET8 to connect the the AT&T Gateway?

It looks like a DHCP Address timeout at this point since it recovers quickly.

You just need to reconfigure a couple of settings on the AT&T Gateway and maybe on your ASUS Zen Wifi ET8 depending on how you configured it.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for responding! I have the 2WIRE 5268AC. The firmware seems to have changed so I don't have menu options for things like IP Passthrough.

I am not sure if this is the right info but in my ASUS app it says my LAN port is 80 (HTTP) /8443 (HTTPs)

Thanks Dave! I applied the change. Will post back in a day or two to see if this did the trick.

Best,

Hey Dave,

My family says the internet has been performing better but I am still getting dropped from online games repeatedly. Any further suggestions on settings I can look at?

Thanks so much for your help so far!

What Online game and what device(s) are playing online games via Wi-Fi or Ethernet (cable) connections)?

Normally you would disable Wi-Fi on you 5268ac and let your ASUS manage all the Wi-Fi connections. Are you doing this?

hey Dave, I am playing Destiny 2 on Wifi. I never had issues for years until recently when these troubles began. I did disable the Wifi on the 5268 AC (both 2.4 and 5Ghz). Sometimes I can play for an hour two perfectly but then get a glitch that kicks me out. Sometimes the glitch is so fast it will let me rejoin seconds later. Other times it boots me to the login screen. My wifi never seems to drop on my computer. It is some network issue that disrupts the connection.

Hey Dave,

I read online it might be the game servers and not my network. They started a new season on Monday, so they are overloaded. So hopefully this clears up over the next week or so.

Hi Dave,

I wanted to provide an update. I kept having issues, primarily with online gaming. I then turned off the advanced AiProtection from TrendMicro that came with the router. That seemed to help a little. I then turned off the basic firewall in the router. Things have gotten better, but there are still occasional drops.

If you have any further suggestions, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Alex
