Does your wifi constantly go out?
We recently switched from Xfinity to ATT fiber. Had no issues for the first month. Then beginning 5 days ago, the wifi is in and out all day and night. Worse in the evenings and is out for over an hour at a time. The only answer we ever get is that there is an area outage and it will be fixed by 3am or within 12 hours! We're already shopping other internet providers as my husband and I both work from home. Very unhappy so far. How common is this?

Don't know how common it is but we see a lot of complaints about WiFi with the AT&T fiber gateways. Most recommend purchasing a separate router (mesh WiFi), place the gateway in pass through mode, and letting the new router handle all of the routing and WiFi duties. Seems to work very well depending on the area you need covered, etc.
FWIW, I have Xfinity, use my own modem with the Netgear Mesh WiFi system and have rock solid, reliable WiFi throughout our home and property.

Thank you for the reply. I'm not tech savvy; would having a separate router prevent us from losing wifi during an "area outage"?

Router's need power like anything else. So if you lose power, you lose internet. However, if your devices are on a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) they may continue to work depending on how much stored battery power there is. Of course, that's provided your ISP doesn't lose power as well or has equipment failure due to the outage. Your devices may still be connected to the router WiFi but the signal needs to go thru the modem or gateway to reach the internet.
