Connector for BGW320-500
When I had my service installed, I let the AT&T tech put the router near a power supply, thinking to move it later. He left me an extra optical cable for that purpose. When I went to move it however, I discovered that the connector on the second cable was different and doesn't fit. Did he give me the wrong kind of cable, or is there a way to make it work?

That thick part is an end cap, dust cover if you will... pull it off then align the plug with the receptacle. There is a raised ridge on the plug, can only go in one way.

Both cables are fiber SC/APC and will work…
the fiber at the wall plate is a fiber data cable while the other is a fiber inside wiring… they are interchangeable.
The fiber at the wallplate is 3 meters (about 10 ft) while the will be based upon length as premade, could be 25 ft, 50 ft, 75 ft or the rare 100 ft.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. But when I try to plug in the replacement it doesn't seem to fit. The barrel is clearly thicker. I don't want to just push harder....

Hi servantworker, we'd be happy to help you with the connector for your gateway. And thank you, my thoughts, for the helpful information.
As my thoughts stated, the cable should work, but if you're unable to get it to fit, we can have a technician come out to help. A $99 service fee may apply.
If you'd like to proceed, just let us know.

A dust cap! Ahhh!!! Now that you tell me it makes perfect sense, but clearly my little brain lacked the capacity to deduce it. Thank you so much my thoughts. My router is moved and speeding along.
