Cannot access work network drives while on ethernet, but wifi can.

I have ATT Fiber with the BGW210 gateway. When I am connected via ethernet, I am unable to access any work network drives or work-related remote-desktop servers. Receiving various 'network not found' error messages. I can confirm that I am connected to my work's VPN.

When I unplug the ethernet and connect to wifi-only (also connected to the VPN), I can successfully restore and access all work network related items. However, the wifi speed at my location averages ~5-10 Mbps. Calls often drop or are very slow, along with other slow-internet related issues.

I can plug my ethernet back in AFTER connecting to everything via wifi, which gives me access to network drives PLUS ethernet-speeds. This is only a temporary fix. As soon as I put my computer to sleep or restart for any reason, if the ethernet is plugged in, I lose work network access. Also for whatever reason (as if we need another wrench thrown in), I cannot connect to my company's azure SQL data warehouse when connected to the ethernet at all. Wifi can connect but running any queries is extremely slow.

I've tried rebooting my computer a thousand times. I've tried all the DNS flush commands in cmd. I've tried turning the gateway off/on, the wifi router off/on, and factory resetting the gateway. Still the ethernet issue remains.

My company's tech support tried all sorts of neat regedits today while remoted into my computer, and eventually concluded that I need to contact ATT about the issue to either adjust my firewall settings or to get a replacement gateway.

Does anyone have any experience with a similar issue? Ethernet gets semi-blocked, but Wifi does not?

Hi there, Planked. Thank you for reaching out to us. We understand how important it is that you have access to your network drives while using Ethernet. Let's point you in the right direction.

We will be sending you a direct message to check on your internet connection, and provide further troubleshooting. Be on the lookout for a chat notification in the upper right-hand portion of the page, next to the bell icon. Once we are in a direct message, we will be able to continue this over the phone or chat if you'd prefer.

In the meantime, we also have an official article that states why your VPN is not working properly with our AT&T internet. Here are a few things to note:

  • Certain VPNs are stricter and may drop you if something seems out of the ordinary. Wi-Fi interference may scramble the packets causing this issue.
  • Using a hardwired connection helps improv VPN communication
  • VPNs can affect overall internet speeds
  • Disconnect a VPN when it is not needed

We look forward to working with you on this matter!

After chatting with an ATT community tech support we were unable to resolve the issue. I tried connecting directly to the gateway but the issue persists, my work VPN does not function properly while connected via ethernet. I was given a number for AT&T Tech360 to call for more advanced help. The number goes to an automated message stating that AT&T Tech360 is no longer available as of February 2023. I was given this number last week.
