Can I use Wi-Fi 6 router?
So, I have had AT&T Fiber internet for at least 3 years. I don't really have any issues with it. I am hard wired to my desktop PC, but wi-fi for everything else. Now that I removed U-verse from my home, I depend solely on "Streaming" for my TVs and other media. My Modem/Router is the BWG210 from AT&T. I also have a Wi-Fi extender, also from AT&T.
Am I allowed to swap out the existing modem/router for a third-party one? If so, can I use a Wi-Fi 6 router? Just wondering if my connections would be better with the newer routers, or should I just stay with what I already have. Please feel free to question me about anything related to this. Thanks!

You cannot remove (swap) the 210 but you can purchase your own router/mesh equipment placing behind the 210 using IP Passthrough.

Do you have WiFi 6 devices? As mentioned by @my thoughts , you can use any router with the gateway as long as you place the gateway in pass through mode. They don't have a true bridge mode. I wouldn't use the AT&T extender if you want to extend your WiFi range. You'd be better off to purchase a mesh WiFi system (there are quite a few good ones to pick from depending on your needs).

@bumfi I use the Netgear Orbi Mesh WiFi 6 system but Eero, Google, Ubiquiti, etc all make very good systems. My system comes with two satellites that can either be hard wired (preferably) for the back channel or use a specific WiFi channel for the back channel, and each satellite has an extra, gigabit ethernet port if you want to connect another device via ethernet to the satellite.
