AT&T, Please stop resetting my router!

How can I turn off router upgrades? This fiber router is junk. Besides missing typical router functions, there is no function for saving or restoring my configuration settings. And every time you push a software update WITHOUT ALLOWING ME TO APPROVE ( which seems like once a quarter these days) you clear EVERYTHING in the router back to factory. From WiFi name and password, WiFI settings, to EVERY single setting I spend hours configuring, like IP allocation, IP DHCP range, MY choice of IP address, filters, NAT gaming settings, firewall rules, etc etc. And when it resets, it resets and changes the IP addresses of every single device in my home too. (Except some static devices that simply stop working all together because the router IP address changes.) Which also eliminates my ability to VPN to machines at home while out of the house (like work) or see my security cameras.

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY EVERY TIME?

I would like to request a simple software update the next time please: Add save and load configuration to the router. My 1995 cheap Netgear had it and just about EVERY access point  router since day one I have owned has had this ability. If you insist on resetting to factory on software updates, at least give me the ability to load back my settings to what they were.

And NO, that web page you have that claims to do this does not.  This is so frustrating I am even considering a switch to Comcast, a company I really dislike.

I have requested this before with zero response. But maybe I expect too much from AT&T? Maybe you simply do not have the smarts to implement a feature from the early 90’s yet?

And before someone suggests IP pass through and a real router behind AT&T’s modem, that setting gets reset too and the entire network goes down, meaning my alarm system goes off line. But maybe that is better because only 1 setting to restore? Oh, but can’t do that while traveling, because remote configuration goes off as well. Sigh.

Good luck getting AT&T to make any changes to their gateways that might be added value to the user.

Not sure what web page you're referring to.

Anyway, something's not right here because normal firmware updates should not do a factory reset as a matter of course.  Which gateway do you have?

Hi Tony. This happens a number of times each year, and did so at my last home too. Very frustrating. Resets everything. But why no save / restore? My save is screen captures of all pages and hand editing the changes back in. :-(

On the web page, years ago an AT&T customer support agent sent me to some company web page that (supposedly) had instructions they claimed would restore my previous settings. If I can find it in old email I’ll post it here.

Thanks for the response.
