AT&T Fiber and Google (Nest) Wifi

Just wanted to share my experience setting up AT&T Fiber (1000) with Google (Nest) Wifi.

I followed all of the instructions related to using Passthrough mode and turned off both Wifi Signals (5 and 2.4G) on the AT&T router and everything works, but the speed detected by the Google Wifi app is about 400 Mbs (or 40% of the speed coming into the house).

Note: Instructions for Passthrough mode here: https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-fiber-equipment/using-google-nest-mesh-system-with-att-fiber/616f8240793b38530dce22b2

I wondered what was going on so I disconnected the Google Wifi and used the same cable to hook up to a laptop.  I used the Ookla Windows Speed Test app on the laptop and guess what? It said the speed was 940Mbs up and down exactly as it should be.

I plugged the Google puck back in and ran the speed test from the Google Wifi App again.  About 400 down and 90 up.

My conclusion:

I used the same exact Google Wifi pucks with Xfinity and the speed registered by the Google Wifi app was almost exactly what I bought from Xfinity, so I know that the Google pucks can do at least 800 Mbs.

The only conclusion I can come to is that there is something about Passthrough mode in the Arris BGW210-700 that severely limits the speeds of a downstream router.  If anyone has other ideas about what might going on, please do respond below.   Thanks.

An update: after reading through some Internet posts, I found a way to get the right speeds from the Google Nest Wifi.

In addition to the Passthrough Steps listed above:

1. Turn off all Packet Filtering (Firewall->Packet Filter..Disable Packet Filters)

2. Turn off Home Security (Firewall->Security Options->Home Network Security)

3. Turn off all Firewall Advanced settings (Firewall->Firewall Advanced)

After making these changes, I'm getting 920 down and 837 up as measured by the Google WiFi app.

I turned off everything and followed all of the steps above. The only thing I succeeded in doing was losing my ATT router as an option for wifi...it completely disappeared from my wifi choices. My google nest speeds did not improve. I went ahead and factory reset my ATT router/modem to its original settings. I am so incredibly frustrated. I wish someone could just figure out a solution to the problem that we are all having. What is the silver bullet????

"Someone" apparently did, two posts up.

What AT&T gateway do you have?

When you set up IP Passthrough did the Google wifi show the WAN IP as your public IP address?

What speeds were you getting and how did you test (wired, wifi, which device)?

Of course your gateway would disappear from the choices, you turned off the wifi radios.

I am a end user and not terribly tech....I am about to connect Google nest WIFI to my AT&T Fiber network..using these steps...But one question...I also have a structured wire network that is run by the AT&T fiber modem( ARRIS
Model Number BGW210-700 ) all of the IP's etc are managed by the AT&T router/modem...will the AT&T NON WIFI be impacted?....or am I just converting the WIFI piece?...

AND...if I have a printer on the GOOGLE NEST WIFI...will it be available on the structured wire network?...

Thanks.
