AT&T Cable Modem Router: Change/Replace w/ Personal Cable Modem Router

Hello:

Is there anyone who might be able to lead me in the right direction regarding a few questions that I am eager to have answered that pertain to Cable Modem Routers?

Specifically, I would like to change/replace out the cable modem router that AT&T issued me when they first installed my internet service back in July of last year.

If I recall, when the AT&T technician came out to install both my U-verse cable and the internet, he had mentioned that AT&T requires their customers to use their specific cable modem routers – which at the time of install, they issued me a Motorola Aris BGW210-700. However, the specific cable modem router that I have (which is the one I would like to use) is a Netgear C7000 – Nighthawk AC1900 WiFi Cable Modem Router.

Is there anyone who might be able to tell me if it is possible to change out the cable modem that AT&T issued for a different one? If anyone is willing to share their experience and/or offer any insights that pertain to this topic question – it would be much appreciated.

Thank You!

That Netgear is a CABLE device and won't work on AT&T fiber. There are no third-party modems/gateways for AT&T fiber so you must use the AT&T BGW or Pace units, especially since you have Uverse TV.

Yes! I was afraid of that... Are you aware if AT&T offers their u-verse cable/internet customers the option to purchase different router gateways (those that are intended to be used for their fiber optic internet and u-verse cable as well)? Thanks for your time. I appreciate your help.

There are only 3 gateways provided by AT&T for higher speed fiber. You don't mention what it is you're trying to accomplish but if you want something that has good wifi coverage, is stable and doesn't have odd problems because of firmware updates, then you need to find a different Internet Provider because none of the AT&T Gateways meet those requirements.
