Help with “AT&T DSL/U-verse DNS Request Form”
Hi, I want AT&T to delegate reverse lookups to my existing DNS server. I am a residential fiber customer with a /29 static block. I don't want them to store the PTR records, I want them to point to my name server, so I can manage the assignment of names.
However, the request form requires PTR information to be entered into a block headed “The below question is for PTR records only. Please provide the IP(s) and Domain corresponding to that IP: IP and Domain(x.x.x.x/att.com)*”, or it won't let me submit the form.
I think this means I'm not understanding something about the process. Am I trying to do something that is not possible? Any suggestions would be very welcome.
(I need this so that my domain doesn't raise security flags because of lacking reverse name service.)

The owner of the IP address block owns the PTR records. AT&T owns the IP addresses, and cannot / will not, hand off the mastery of that DNS information to you.
You own the domain name, and can host forward resolution however you want, but not reverse.
Apparently, you can give them the IP addresses and the host/domain name you'd like associated with them and they'll set up the PTR records accordingly.

Yes, that makes sense. After a long session interacting with AT&T support people today, I finally got in touch with a tech who knew all about it, and in fact, it's very simple. He was able to answer my questions about the form I mentioned before, so I have now submitted it and hopefully in a day or two I'll have reverse lookup on those IPs. And yes, you are correct: ATT adds the PTR records to their servers. If I change anything on my end, I'll need to submit that form again.

For others like me whose email is getting blocked by ISP antispam rDNS queries; as of 12/30/2022 the ATT DNS change request contact number is
888-787-4288. Leave a voice message. They'll return your call in a few hours. There's no DNS request form. They ask you to email the department with your information.

As an follow up to madachi's posts for others who found this thread on a search, as of March 2023 you can simply email prov-dns@att.com to get the reverse DNS entry setup. No need to call the # above and they were very responsive. Old info pointing to att.com/dns website to fill out a form no longer works, the URL is broken.
