Gigabit internet, getting 100mbps down/0.8mbps up
Been paying for gigabit internet for years and I've never been given even half of what I'm paying for.
Went through a whole slew of stability issues over the years, and just today I received yet another modem as per recommendation by ATT support.
Brand new default settings out of the box, plugged in directly via ethernet cable, and I'm getting 100mbps down / 0.8mbps up.
What gives?

Which AT&T gateway? I presume you do not have your own router attached to the gateway.
What device are you testing with? (make and model# please)
Have you tried a different Ethernet cable?
How are you testing? If it's a Windows machine we recommend getting the Ookla Speedtest App from the Microsoft Store and use that.

BGW210-700

Not sure what you mean; I'm using a custom built PC & getting similar results on mobile phones / laptops

Yes

Latest OOKLA is 130 mbs down/1.01mbps up

Also, simply running the speedtest will crash the internet for 15-20 seconds upon completion

So on the PC, which network chipset does it have?
What does the Ethernet Properties show as connection rate for the PC? See below.
Just to be sure, if you run the speedtest built into the gateway, does it show 900+ both up and down? http://192.168.1.254/cgi-bin/speed.ha
I'm not interested in discussing wifi speeds at this point because there are so many variables there. We can go there later on.

Ok, so the PC is negotiating a gig connection with the gateway so that's one thing down.
That's a very old driver for the Realtek but I know from experience that it's hard to track down the latest one. So see what you can find because ancient drivers like that sometimes have issues with today's ultra fast services.
I have no idea why the gateway puked on that command, I can assure you the function is there. If you have the AT&T Smart Home Manager you can run the gateway test from it.
Is the laptop newer and does it have an Ethernet port?
